A newly released movie, The Years of Our Youth, took the internet by storm. The plot was packed with melodrama, and its tragic ending brought the audience to tears.

The male lead, Kang Zhiwen, had a stunningly handsome face and a cool, refined air, with broad shoulders and a slim waist. From his very first appearance, he was clearly destined for greatness. The entire internet called him the man of everyone's dreams, and his popularity left all the other actors in the dust.

What puzzled people was that the movie had no cast list, making “Get all his information in three seconds” a trending topic.

You Rang went to see the movie with a friend and fell for the male lead at first sight. The next day, he found himself inside the movie, playing a random background character.

You Rang had been gentle and obedient since childhood. “Well-behaved” was the word everyone around him used to describe him.

He wore a pair of oversized glasses every day, hiding his delicate features and soft, gentle eyes.

He looked timid and weak, as pretty as a doll in a shop window that anyone could play with. Girls adored him, and the boys called him “one of the girls.”

The first time You Rang met Kang Zhiwen face-to-face, the tall, long-legged young man stood against the light in the classroom doorway. That one glance etched him into You Rang's heart.

Later, his classmates gradually noticed that the You Rang they disliked had changed.

He took off his glasses, revealing a smooth forehead, and when he looked at people with a smile, he seemed like a ray of warm light.

He held a bouquet of roses. Whoever he stood in front of to confess his love would find it hard to turn him down.

And that included the cold-hearted Kang Zhiwen.

The shou pursues the gong at first (he really does love him and will become obsessive). Later, the gong pursues the shou once they're together (he's a gentlemanly obsessive at this point and will grab the shou for all kinds of kisses at the slightest disagreement).

Includes a groveling arc and a major love-triangle-style showdown. There is angst along the way, but the ending is happy.

Content warnings: There will be some painful youth-and-school romance moments, and melodrama too.

The great villain is cold and lustful. He embodies both justice and evil, has a difficult past, and bears humiliation and hardship before returning with a new identity. Everything he does sets the novel's world in motion.

There is a cannon-fodder character early in the story with exactly the same name as You Xiaoshu. Because he's so beautiful, the great villain uses him and sends him to the bed of his rival. He becomes the first case's victim and is killed off in fewer than two hundred words.

You Xiaoshu finished reading the book and thought nothing of it.

Then he woke up inside the story as the cannon fodder with the same first and last name.

You Xiaoshu: ...

I'm a carefree fish, but I don't want to die. So why not nip everything in the bud?

He immediately reported the great villain, who had only just made his first move, and had the police come arrest him.

Kang Li had spent over a decade living for the deep blood feud he carried.

That was until he saw the innocent little beauty.

The boy was clearly terrified of him, yet never gave in, always on the front lines of his fight against him.

You Xiaoshu was like a softness hidden deep inside, never making the first move, yet irresistibly drawing him in.

Content warnings:

1. The gong is a little twisted and very bad (to others and to himself), but will treat the shou better and better.

2. Everyone is a villain.

3. The shou has a reversal, and midway through the story he personally arrests the gong.

4. Both are faithful in body and heart, with few significant romantic rivals.
