The Tenant Upstairs

Recently, the vacant apartment above Xie Wanying's was finally rented out.

The day they met to sign the lease was the first time Xie Wanying met Wen Qi.

She noticed the pair of snow-white animal ears that suddenly appeared on the young man's head.

Not only that, she could even clearly see the fine fuzz on them.

Strangely, though, it seemed she was the only one who could see them.

Xie Wanying assumed she was imagining things.

But one day, when Xie Wanying visited Wen Qi's home, she saw several tufts of soft white fur scattered across the sofa in his living room.

As she stared at the little white hairs, her mind going blank, she heard her tenant suddenly say, flustered,

“Could you please stop staring at my fur?”

Xie Wanying froze.

Turning toward the voice, she saw Wen Qi with his face bright red.

And the pair of pinkish-white animal ears on his head, drooping slightly.

[Bonus Scene]

Ever since Wen Qi started living with Xie Wanying, his girlfriend asked him the same soul-searching question every day:

“Why are you shedding again?”

Wen Qi's ears drooped at once as he was scolded: QAQ.

A few things to know before reading:

1. This is essentially a sweet little story. Please forgive any plot holes ovo. Unless something unexpected happens, it's a short, slice-of-life story.

2. I started writing this during winter break of my senior year, but updates were sporadic because of my internship and thesis. I wasn't in a great place mentally back then and considered dropping it, but I managed to drag myself to the end TVT. The ending may feel a little rushed, but I'm so grateful to everyone who left a comment whenever I updated QAQ. I hope everything goes well for you, both in life and in your studies or career!

3. I just write for fun, so feel free to read casually. I hope everyone enjoys it!

Summer Romance

Xie Jin considered herself a complete shut-in.

She didn't like going out or socializing. If she didn't need a job to make a living, she would happily stay at home for the rest of her life.

Just imagine a rainy day, lying in bed with a tablet, watching anime, playing games, or reading novels, with the nightstand piled high with snacks...

It's hard to imagine a more wonderful day.

More than once, Xie Jin had thought: Me, my bed, and my tablet. The three of us can have a perfectly good life together.

Then one day, while handing over work, Xie Jin saw the desktop of Gu Qi, the new artist on the team next door. It seemed to be a Live2D animation of her wife, Ilena...

Before she knew it, the words “my wife” had slipped out.

Realizing what she'd said a moment too late, Xie Jin hurriedly covered her mouth.

At that very moment, her love rival stared at her in bewilderment, meeting her evasive gaze.

A few seconds later,

The man, who had been speaking seriously about work, seemed to finally realize what was going on.

He casually picked up the pen on his desk, struck an elementary-schooler's fighting pose, and declared solemnly, “Love rival, prepare to fight!”

Xie Jin: “...?”

But a few months later,

Xie Jin never imagined that this “love rival” would become her...

Boyfriend.

And the “three of us” she'd dreamed of would turn into...
