The Little Sidekick

Xia Shile has a childhood friend who is a boy and one who is a girl.

His male friend, Gu Jingchi, is tall, handsome, and an excellent student, the kind of kid everyone else's parents wish they had.

His female friend, Tao Jiajia, is as beautiful as a goddess and graceful as a flower. She and Gu Jingchi are a perfect match, made for each other.

Only Xia Shile is short and skinny, slow-witted, and always trailing after the two of them like a little sidekick.

But at their high school graduation ceremony, when Tao Jiajia confessed to Gu Jingchi,

Xia Shile, the inconspicuous one in the crowd, actually punched Gu Jingchi for her sake.

From then on, his childhood friend became his rival in love.

Xia Shile started avoiding Gu Jingchi. He returned all the toys Gu Jingchi had given him as a child and even applied to a university far from home.

Before long, Gu Jingchi cornered him in a narrow alley.

Xia Shile knew Gu Jingchi wanted revenge for that punch, and he trembled with fear.

Still, steeling himself for death, he rose onto his tiptoes and kissed Gu Jingchi before he could lean in.

Xia Shile squeezed his eyes shut, ready to face his fate. "Go ahead and hit me. Once you've done it, we'll be even, and I'll never like you again!"

Gu Jingchi was stunned by the kiss.

After a long moment, he gently cupped Xia Shile's face, his voice low and husky. "Who did you say you like? Say it again."
