A Hundred Ways to Save the Detective Agency

[For first-time readers, please see the reading guide below the blurb] * After solving a major case, twenty-three-year-old Detective Inspector Kanda Ichi was plied with drinks at the celebration banquet. Everyone praised his looks, talent, youth, and bright future. He could only offer a polite, awkward smile. Back at his apartment, slightly tipsy, Kanda Ichi took out his phone and dialed someone's number. [Hello.] "Gin, how much longer do I have to stay at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department? I just solved another big case, and my boss says he's going to promote me to inspector. Waaaah..." […] "I'm really scared. Every morning, I wake up and see the police uniform hanging in my room, and it scares me. Yesterday, a coworker came running over to deliver some files, and I almost ran away!" […My phone's dying. Talk next time.] As a member of the Organization undercover in the police force, Kanda Ichi never forgot his mission. But after two years there, he'd barely received any assignments, which left him, a self-proclaimed villain, deeply dejected. Then one day, he finally received a text telling him to work with the Organization's new members, Bourbon and Scotch, as their inside man on a mission. "So, you're the ones for this mission... Ahem!" Looking at his two former police academy classmates, Kanda Ichi fell silent. "We're just like you, Ichi." Scotch's voice was as gentle as ever. "We're all doing this for justice." "Yeah... Right, for justice..." Kanda Ichi was forced to become a double agent, forced to earn the attention of all kinds of bigwigs on the good guys' side, and forced to learn truths he never wanted to know. Like how the Organization had been surrounded by undercover agents... What kind of Organization is this? Is there any hope for it? So when can I quit the police force? ◆Reading Guide◆ 1. The protagonist is a genuine Organization member with a little water mixed in. He's one of the police academy group, saves his classmates, and everyone survives for a happy ending. 2. Crossover, with an original protagonist. The main world is Detective Conan. No other ability-based series are crossed over (Prince of Tennis doesn't count as an ability series!). No supernatural powers, forums, or System. 3. Pairing with Gin. He's so dependable that I forgot this was originally a pick-your-pairing story. There's lots of sweet romance; if you only want the sugary bits, you can read the extras. I personally love the extras, too. 4. The protagonist's identity and all the things readers thought were unreasonable or plot holes in the early chapters will be explained later. The undercover agents recruiting new members will be explained later, too. The protagonist is an undercover agent, so his records were definitely doctored. Don't get hung up on whether Japan has background checks. Other commonly raised questions in the comments will all be explained later. They're foreshadowing. Some people say the explanations feel forced, but they really are explained, and there are no plot holes in the setup. I'm not saying you have to read all the way to the explanations, but everything really does have an explanation. I can't reveal the truth of a 400,000-character story in the first 70,000 characters. I recommend reading one chapter at a time. If it's not for you, please stop in time! No need to tell me if you drop it. 5. The alternate-timeline extras have started updating. They're in the collection at the bottom of my author page (updates are slow, but feel free to nudge me). 6. The cover is really handsome. I hope you'll all click to enlarge it and take a look! The full image is on Lofter, along with some adorable little emotes. And thanks to Rou Rou for making the cover for me! I put together a new blurb for another story in the same series. The protagonist is still Ichi, but some of the setup has changed. The pairing is childhood friends. Visit my author page to go straight to it! One Hundred Ways to Save Your Childhood Friend, Conan-Style · "I want you to go undercover in the Organization." Standing in front of the police superintendent's desk, Kanda Ichi couldn't help rolling his eyes. He drew the P230JP the police had issued him from his waist, a gun he didn't particularly like using, and pointed it at his boss's head. "Boss, is passing the civil service exam that easy? You told me to study hard and become a cop, and now you want me to go back to the Organization as an undercover agent?" "You look like an undercover agent to me." - As a second-generation Organization member, born and raised in the black, Kanda Ichi worked hard to overcome his police-related PTSD after graduating from university. He finally passed the exam to become a career-track cop, only for a high-ranking mole in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to send him back to the Organization. [Here's the situation. I recently heard that the cops sent an undercover agent into the Organization, but security is so tight that I haven't figured out who it is yet. We need someone to pose as an undercover agent playing the counter-undercover role. Act as suspicious as you can, so the real undercover agents will come forward and identify themselves to you.] [Then you'll be able to return to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and resume your job as Inspector Kanda, Sazerac.] Already terrified of the police, Kanda Ichi put on a show of resistance while cheering inside as he accepted the mission. He returned to the Organization and began a life of lying flat and doing nothing. If anyone asked, he was acting suspicious so the undercover agents would come looking for him. Until one day, he was ordered to carry out a mission with the Organization's newest code-name members, Scotch and Bourbon. Looking at his two police academy classmates and childhood friends standing in front of him, Kanda Ichi fell silent. To keep the undercover-agent nesting-doll operation from ending immediately, and avoid returning to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, which was crawling with cops, Kanda Ichi decided to pretend he didn't know either of them. Kanda Ichi was forced to give up his laid-back life, forced to get moving and cover up for his classmates, who were always giving themselves away, and forced to keep up with those two workaholics day and night... Kanda Ichi couldn't take it anymore. He stopped the two of them and demanded in exasperation: "Give it to me straight. Do you two even want to be undercover agents anymore? Can you get your act together?" (Then they pin him against the wall and kiss him (?))
