Cheng Gong is the daughter of the constable in Liu'an Town. Growing up surrounded by the work, she learned to wield a blade and set her sights on getting into the Six Fan Gate.
Everyone in town laughed at her, saying she was chasing an impossible dream. After all, even the chickens raised by the cooks at the Six Fan Gate were all male.
Cheng Gong refused to believe it. Her father paid a fortune to have someone travel a thousand miles to find out the requirements: solve a hundred cases within two years, and you can join the Six Fan Gate.
From then on, wherever a case cropped up in Liu'an Town, Cheng Gong was there.
When she was just three cases short of a hundred, a strange, aloof young coroner arrived in Liu'an Town. He cared for nothing but money, yet solved a cold case that had remained unsolved for years with a single move.
Though she couldn't stand the penniless coroner, the two-year deadline was drawing near, and she needed those cases. So Cheng Gong put up with him again and again, even handing over the money she'd been saving for a rainy day.
