Watching the boy walk away with cold indifference, Ning Xiangyi gritted her teeth.

She knew she would never be able to pluck this flower from its lofty peak.

On the day of the senior class's rooftop rally, amid countless cheers, a girl's voice rang out across the whole building: “I'm done liking Xu Jianbai!”

Xu Jianbai had been doing problems in the classroom. When he heard those words, his pen dragged a long black line across the page.

For the first time in his life, he panicked.

Everyone laughed at her cynical little nugget of wisdom.

The second speaker was Xu Jianbai.

Looking at the lovely figure who had not yet gone far, he began with, “I disagree with what she just said.”

“You shouldn't give up so easily.”

Since joining Beishen First Affiliated Hospital, Dr. Xu Jianbai has turned away so many admirers that they've all concluded he's a wall too hard to run into.

Recently, word has been going around the hospital that someone else is pursuing their handsome Dr. Xu.

One of his admirers is waiting to see her get rejected, wondering when it will happen.

When the news reached Xu Jianbai, his answer was not what anyone expected.

“I'm the one pursuing her.”

The day she first met Qi Yue, the situation was terribly awkward.

The boy had an arm around his stepbrother's neck and was turning down a girl's confession.

He had a pair of alluring eyes, their corners tilted upward, and a carefree grin.

After the girl left, her stepbrother noticed Wen Shiyu standing off to the side. Afraid she would misunderstand and go home to tell on him, he panicked. “Let me explain.”

The words were far too easy to misinterpret, and Qi Yue glanced over, assuming she was his new girlfriend.

“Hello, sister-in-law.”

“Hello, brother-in-law.”

Wen Shiyu and Qi Yue spoke at the same time, turning the family hierarchy upside down.

The most bewildered person there was Wen Shiyu's stepbrother: “...”

After the college entrance exams, someone posted anonymously on the school forum that the top two students in the senior class had been together for ages.

When Wen Shiyu heard, she went to find the other person involved, intending to figure out how to clear things up.

But Qi Yue said, “Why clear it up? Isn't it true?”

“Or are you going to seduce me and then abandon me?”

“...”

What a ridiculous accusation to throw at her.

Wen Shiyu was about to retort when the boy before her suddenly put on a pitiful expression. “You said you'd take responsibility for me.”

Even much later, Wen Shiyu still remembered that evening study session when the classroom lost power.

Cheers erupted throughout the building, one after another, rising to the heavens as the restless energy of youth burst loose.

But with her night blindness, she couldn't see a thing, so she stayed in her seat, afraid to move.

Someone gently took her hand in the darkness, making her feel safe.

“Don't be afraid. I'm here.”
