1. At the school sports meet's performance segment, Chen Wenche stepped in at the last minute to take the class monitor's place onstage. With one hand in his pocket, his low, languid voice and handsome, unruly features set the students below into a frenzy of screams.
Even knowing the rumors about him, the next day his desk was still stuffed with pink envelopes. He counted them one by one, completely unconcerned.
Gu Tingyao lowered her head and worked on her problems, lips pressed together.
After school that evening, in an empty corridor of the teaching building, he clenched a yellow envelope in his hand and blocked her path, trapping her so she couldn't leave. He smiled wickedly. "It's yours."
He reached out and circled her wrist. The spot where he touched her skin burned, making her cheeks flush as all she wanted was to get away.
2. Everyone thought Chen Wenche was only playing around with Gu Tingyao. Only she, the good student, took the risk of believing it was real.
But nobody knew that on that peach-scented summer night,
Chen Wenche looked at the person lying on her side with her back to him, playing with the ends of her hair as he lazily asked what she wanted for her birthday.
Gu Tingyao said, "I want you to make me a hundred fish lanterns."
Chen Wenche narrowed his sharp eyes. "Are you messing with me?"
Before she could even say yes, he kissed the word right off her lips.
It was only later that Chen Wenche realized she really had been messing with him.
3. In the hospital room after their reunion, Chen Wenche refused to let her treat him.
The new assistant asked curiously if they had some kind of history. Gu Tingyao's cool, composed face remained expressionless.
"We're not close. I don't know him."
When she changed his dressing that night, he grabbed her slender wrist so hard it hurt and pinned her down.
His gaze held her in a tight, possessive circle, and his breath fell against her, making her heart race.
"Dr. Gu, are you saying we're not close, looking like this?"
4. Even the faintest light shines brilliantly, and will one day illuminate the deep blue abyss.
- To be with you, and ask for a summer whose burning heat will never fade.

Coming soon: Don't Speak Too Soon
1. They met again at Grandpa Zhou's birthday banquet. Someone led her through the crowded hall and pushed open the old mansion's antique folding door. A tall figure leaned against a huge glass tank, watching goldfish dart past, his languid, world-weary features veiled in a vivid red glow.
"Third Brother, this is Ningning, the girl I told you about."
At the sound, Zhou Shengheng turned around. He watched impassively as the young man before him held her hand, his eagerness to show her off impossible to conceal.
"Ningning." Zhou Shengheng tapped the glass with long fingers, repeating her nickname in a detached, amused voice.
He scattered fish food, and the goldfish surged to the surface, splashing water that soaked the hem of her skirt.
Ning Xingwu took half a step back. Meeting his familiar, oppressive gaze, she chose to forget those immature years of her youth.
So she held out her hand politely. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Zhou."
Zhou Shengheng lowered his eyes and didn't take her hand. "Aren't you being a bit formal? Just call me Brother."
2. Back in the day, Zhou Shengheng of Changfeng Street was notorious for being wild and unruly. Every time, he made Old Master Zhou so angry that the old man would hit him with his cane. "Our Ningning is the sweetest girl. As her big brother, you need to set a good example."
But nobody knew how the sweetest Ning Xingwu had tugged on an invisible leash in her hand, scheming until Zhou Shengheng willingly bowed his head, or how fiercely they kissed and clung to each other in a cramped goldfish shop on Changfeng Street.
Only, when her time staying at his home was up, she disappeared without a trace.
*
Ning Xingwu had never thought those damp, old memories were worth bringing up.
Halfway through the banquet, she was relieved to see half a glass of wine spilled on her skirt. She planned to change and leave in a hurry.
She had only pulled the zipper halfway when someone seized her slender wrist and pinned her against the glass wall. Her skirt slipped down. Behind her was a wall of swimming goldfish, and half his face was hidden in the murky light and water.
Ning Xingwu held her skirt in place, a rare trace of panic gathering in her cool, striking eyes. "Mr. Zhou, please let..."
"I don't want to hear it."
His grip tightened. Zhou Shengheng caught the back of her neck, their tipsy breaths mingling as he smothered her broken sobs.
Just beyond the door, Old Master Zhou smiled from ear to ear, praising her to everyone he met. "Our Ningning has always been so obedient. Whoever she chooses will surely be well-behaved too, unlike that troublesome brat of mine."
Zhou Shengheng's lips curled faintly. As if out of kindness, he loosened his hold on the woman in his arms. His long fingers brushed over her bitten lips, and his voice turned husky. "You really are well-behaved. After all these years, you still haven't learned to catch your breath."
#Changfeng Street, shadows slanting, stealing a kiss on her cheek.
