When he was twelve, he happened to hear a clear, gentle voice, like that of a jade-like young nobleman.
From then on, that voice became the inspiration for every song and lyric he would ever write.

Shi Ye entered the guofeng scene because of Zhi Yu, its universally acclaimed male idol.
He joined the same guofeng music club as Zhi Yu, writing lyrics and composing music for two years, and singing backup for two years. In his third year, Zhi Yu finally collaborated with him on a song Shi Ye had written especially for him.
That guofeng song became a huge hit, even beyond the scene, but around then Zhi Yu began to gradually withdraw from public life.
Later, Shi Ye became a well-known lyricist in the guofeng scene, with hundreds of thousands of followers on Weibo. He could write lyrics, compose music, and sing high notes.
His screen name was a single character meaning "grass," both cool and distinctive. True to his name, he was often teased by his many mom fans and male fans as a "pretty little brother with a sweet voice."
His fans all knew he had been waiting for the man who left the scene seven years ago to return. Then, one day... the hashtag #ChiJuan ZhiYu shot to the top of the trending list.
That day, after staring for a long while at an entertainment news story saying that actor Chi Juan was about to become a mentor on a boy band audition show, Shi Ye promptly sent in an application for the show.
