But on the day she was forced to sacrifice herself to a formation, the Immortal Lord of the Divine Mountain appeared and saved her.

His cultivation had reached the pinnacle. Like snow atop a lofty mountain, he was distant and impossible to approach. After saving her, he kept her by his side and treated her exceptionally well. Before long, they cultivated together to heal her injuries, and he promised to marry her.

Ji Lingsu was captivated by his tenderness and devotion, day after day.

Until, just before their wedding, she accidentally glimpsed the secrets of fate and awakened memories of her past life.

It turned out that Xie Rongchen had long loved someone else.

His beloved was gravely wounded and near death, and the blood from Ji Lingsu's heart was just what she needed to survive.

He chose to marry Ji Lingsu so he could kill his wife to prove his Dao, take the spiritual blood from her heart, and return to the Divine Mountain to save his beloved.

In her previous life, on their wedding night, Xie Rongchen mercilessly pierced her chest.

In this life, he still walked toward her with his sword, just as he had before.

Before he could strike, Ji Lingsu stepped into the tribulation lightning of her own accord and calmly told him, "Immortal Lord, I owe you my life, and now I repay it. From here on, you and I... owe each other nothing."

A mortal body could not withstand the lightning tribulation. In an instant, her bones and sinews shattered, and she fell into a sea of fire.

As lightning and flames rained down from the sky, she did not see Xie Rongchen's eyes turn bloodshot as he ran toward her without a thought for himself.

The tribulation lightning struck him until he was covered in blood, and he staggered to the ground.

But none of that mattered to her anymore.

After glimpsing the secrets of fate, Ji Lingsu learned that the world she lived in was a melodramatic tragedy, and that as its tragic heroine, she was destined to undergo a romantic tribulation with its hero, Xie Rongchen.

Only by surviving that tribulation and completing the plot could she escape its control.

She followed the tribulation's script and chose to die, freeing herself.

Many years later, rumors spread that the model cultivator, True Lord Lingxu, who should have passed his tribulation and ascended, had fallen into demonic ways and severed his path to ascension. He had broken into the Ghost Domain of Fengdu and committed every manner of mad deed, all to find the remnant soul of his beloved.

After faking her death in the lightning tribulation and being reborn anew, Ji Lingsu turned away the visitor waiting outside her door. In the corner of her eye, she caught sight of a familiar figure covered in bloody wounds, then calmly looked away.

Later, when she pierced his chest, she did not hesitate or soften her heart in the slightest.

The Great Dao is simple: sever emotion, extinguish desire, and forget all feeling.

But in the mortal world, where even plants and trees have feelings, learning that Ji Lingsu was the romantic tribulation he had to undergo shook Xie Rongchen's Daoist heart. He could never again be a man without feelings.

This tragic novel's male lead no longer wants their story to end in tragedy.

[Reader's Guide]

1. This is a writing exercise. The setting is an alternate pre-Qin dynasty, with most elements entirely fictional, and a low-magic cultivation background.

2. There are melodramatic plot twists. The blurb contains many differences in perspective, and the beloved is a misunderstanding.

3. The heroine fakes her death. The male lead does not change.

4. Not your typical groveling-after-a-breakup story. A cold, arrogant king goes mad for love. Happy ending.

5. The main story starts slowly, with sweetness and angst mixed together. The plot serves the romance. It's not long, around 200,000 characters.

6. Written for my own enjoyment. My take on cultivation, with plenty of original worldbuilding.

7. The world in the book is a real, independent parallel world, controlled by a System disguised as the Heavenly Dao.
