Blurb One
The year of the college entrance exams, Xue Miao's parents divorced, and she suddenly became a burden neither her father nor mother wanted. She went to live with the aunt next door.
That was when she first met Shen Fuyun. He had a neat, tousled haircut, and when he smiled, he seemed effortlessly charming.
"Be a good girl, Shuishui. From now on, stay by your big brother's side. I'll protect you."
After that, she covered for him and watched him go out to have fun.
Shen Fuyun's mother was always busy with work, so the two of them relied on each other. Shen Fuyun was independent. He could cook delicious meals, help her with her homework, and fix the broken bathroom door.
She wrote her feelings in her diary, planning to confess once she went to college.
But then she saw him holding hands with another girl. The girl was mature and poised, and when she smiled, she was like a radiant rose.
Xue Miao glanced at her own school uniform, far too white, and quietly walked away.
Later, she was assigned to her mother and taken away.
On the day she left, Shen Fuyun went to a classmate's party. They never got to say goodbye.
As she sat on the plane, Xue Miao gazed at the blue sky and white clouds outside and silently vowed to forget him completely.
Eight years later, an accident left her traumatized and unable to play the cello anymore.
They met again in a dimly lit bar.
After beating up the hooligan who had harassed her, he took the glass from her hand, his expression unreadable.
"Been getting into trouble?"
"No." She stood up coldly, unwilling to put up with his meddling.
"Forgot all about your big brother already?" He smiled. "After all the trouble I went to looking after you."
A few days later, Shen Fuyun received an envelope containing a stack of money and a note.
"Thank you for taking care of me."
Blurb Two
Shen Fuyun had always been carefree and irreverent. In everyone's eyes, he was arrogant and feared neither gods nor ghosts.
One day, his childhood friend saw him earnestly cutting paper window decorations and felt like the whole world had collapsed.
Shen Fuyun's thin lips parted. His eyes held a helplessness he was nonetheless happy to accept.
"Can't be helped. The little girl at home said handmade paper cuttings are what make it feel like New Year."
Xue Miao stayed in the apartment with her cello in hand. The man in front of her, wearing a black turtleneck, was putting up paper window decorations for her.
Sunlight shone through the red paper onto the man's face. He turned and asked, "Shuishui, do you like this snowflake design?"
"It's all right."
"Okay, I'll try harder."
She tilted her head and said earnestly, "Thank you, big brother."
His expression froze, then turned helpless. "I was young and stupid. How about I apologize to you?"
