You are a player.
You're not exactly a hardcore gamer, but you've played enough different games to pick up a thing or two over the years. Every now and then, you even post guides on the forums, and people call you "Boss!"
So one day, you're invited to participate in the closed beta of a full-dive game. All you have to do is take part from start to finish and fill out a feedback questionnaire, and you'll earn a free trip around Europe, with flights and accommodation covered. Business-class flights and a star-rated hotel, too.
You're thrilled. It feels like a windfall, so you rush in without even reading the instructions.

At the start of the game, there's only one childhood-friend NPC you can talk to, so you speak with him every day to advance the quests as quickly as possible.
Thanks to your relentless efforts, one day you finally unlock a new story event. Your childhood friend says something about "the God of Baseball having abandoned me" and heads up to the rooftop.
You panic and immediately climb up after him, declaring, "You jump, I jump."
Then your childhood friend slips and takes you tumbling off the building with him.
You think you're about to have to start over, but another NPC suddenly appears, shouting something about "saving you two even if it costs me my life."
And so you survive and unlock more NPCs.
Later, your childhood friend NPC keeps talking about some "Mafia game." You immediately smell the main plot and say you want to join, but your childhood friend turns you down.
You can actually get rejected from joining? Is your affection level not high enough?
You're confused, and you also think a game with zero new-player guidance is a real pain. You're definitely going to mention that in the feedback questionnaire.
One day, you're out raising an NPC's affection level as usual when someone shoots you on the road. When you wake up, your childhood friend is staring at you in alarm, and beside him is a two-head-tall baby inviting you to join the Vongola Family.
You get it.
So you just hadn't triggered the key NPC.
You happily accept. Looks like the main plot is leading the Vongola Family to world domination.
Your childhood friend falls silent.
Then your childhood friend confesses his love for you.
You fall silent.
Could this actually be a romance game after all?
You happily accept.
Then the game automatically logs you out. Turns out the demo only went that far. It feels like something is missing, but when you think about the luxurious European trip you're about to get, you decide it's already been a blast. You also pre-register for the game in the store.
Before long, you've packed your bags and boarded a plane. When you land in Sicily, you realize the developers have tricked you.
The flight really was a luxurious business-class trip, but the five-star hotel has become a hostel dorm with ten people to a room.
After much hesitation, you decide to drag your luggage to a different hotel.
You turn around and bump into a man with a scar on his chin.
Strange. Why does this man look so much like your childhood-friend NPC from the game?

The day after Takeshi Yamamoto confessed to Rinrin, she disappeared.
There was no trace of her anywhere in Namimori. Even her family had vanished overnight, leaving the house empty.
He searched for a long time and never gave up, not even after ten years.
Then one day, after finishing a mission, he happened to pass by a narrow alley.
He saw the familiar girl dragging a suitcase down the stairs with difficulty. She brushed past him as though he were a stranger.
That was his Rinrin. He was absolutely certain.
