The Substitute Lover Returns After Turning Dark

Yun Sheng thinks that the best way to get revenge on someone is to make them fall in love with you, then cruelly abandon them. Nothing could be more vicious or more satisfying.

Yun Sheng's life has gone smoothly. His older brother dotes on him, his lover is deeply devoted to him, and his childhood friend silently watches over him. Yun Sheng thinks he may be the happiest person in the world.

Then the Northern Kingdom falls, and everyone sends him to the Yan Kingdom as a hostage in the name of the Third Prince. Only then does he realize that everyone treated him well only because his face is identical to that of the Third Prince, Chu Lou. From beginning to end, he was nothing but a stand-in.

In the Yan Kingdom, he suffers every humiliation. Hatred for them is what keeps him alive. When the Northern Kingdom conquers the Yan Kingdom, he returns to their side once more. This time, he swears they will pay in blood.

Yun Sheng once had a dream. In it was a book, and in that book he was merely a disposable stand-in. The Third Prince, Chu Lou, was the beloved main character, while Yun Sheng's older brother, lover, and childhood friend all loved him. In the book, Yun Sheng was a disposable character who sought revenge on Chu Lou and the others, but failed and ended up torn apart by five horses.

So when he sees Chu Lou again, Yun Sheng has learned his lesson. Since his older brother, lover, and childhood friend all love Chu Lou and see him as nothing but a substitute, he'll make Chu Lou fall in love with him instead. That should count as revenge, too.
