Dai Jing first met Jiang Zhuoxing on a rainy night, after she fought with her parents and stormed out. Beneath the hazy streetlights, a tall, handsome boy lounged carelessly against his motorcycle, chin in hand. He raised an eyebrow and curved his lips into a wickedly charming smile. “Cold? Here, take my jacket.”
Jiang Zhuoxing was the son of her parents’ old friends, the most rebellious rich kid in Beicheng. With a face worthy of a god, he was into everything from riding motorcycles to racing. His moods were impossible to read, and he was wild and unruly. He couldn’t care less about the crowds who adored him, yet whenever he saw her, his smile was always bright and dazzling.
One chance encounter showed her his wilder side: he took on five thugs without breaking a sweat, knocked them down in the street, then leaned against a wall and smoked.
“Ha, you don’t fight?” The boy froze with a cigarette between his lips when he heard her. Then he grinned mischievously and asked, “Then how about a date with me, big sis?”
At another chaotic street corner, he rescued her from a drunk who was only pretending to be drunk. He smashed a beer bottle and pressed it to the man’s throat, then grinned at him, laid-back and roguish, a cigarette between his lips. “She’s mine. I’m protecting her. Got it?”
She turned down his confession. After a period of silence, the boy went right back to being as bold and carefree as ever.
Later, she saw him fighting by the roadside. When he spotted her, his expression was indifferent.
Dai Jing walked over, pressed a bandage onto his face, and turned to leave. He yelped, “Ow, ow, ow!” then followed her clingily. “Where are you going? I’ll take you.”
When she injured herself running, he scooped her up. His delicate features lit up with a smile like a cat who’d gotten into the cream. “Big sis, hold on tight.”
Dai Jing knew he was the most talked-about guy at school and had turned down more girls than she could count. His crush on her was probably just a passing fancy, so she didn’t take it seriously.
Until she was harassed. The man was grabbed by the throat and slammed against a wall. Jiang Zhuoxing bent over him, his expression ferocious, like a vicious wolfdog. “Get lost. Stay away from her.”
He stubbed out his cigarette, braced one hand against the wall to trap her, and ran his knuckles through her hair. His fierce, unrestrained kiss stole her breath. “You’re always so disobedient, big sis.”
He gripped her chin and kissed her hard. “I’ll have to teach you slowly.”
“How to look at men.” He licked his lips.
