Huai Jianhe took on a new mission. The rookie System only said it was a minor supporting role, but after he entered the world, he discovered he'd been handed the mess of a cannon-fodder character.
His greatest strength, since he valued his life, was doing as he was told.
When the man he'd called neither man nor woman told him to strip, he obediently undid his buttons. When his guardian, who'd run off with his money, told him to tend to him at his bedside, he stayed up all night without changing his clothes or closing his eyes. When the national preceptor, whose legs his men had broken, told him to seize the throne, he was terrified, but still let the other man personally dress him in the imperial robes...
He also managed to stay alive under the ruthless villains he'd offended.
He figured he'd just muddle through, but the System on the other side was starting to fall apart.
The cannon-fodder role really was getting harder and harder to handle. The returns were low, but the protagonist and villain had both been offended. If he was lucky, he'd get to keep his life. If not, being torn limb from limb would be the least of it. No one wanted the job, and the newly hired System Zero was having a hard time at first.
Fortunately, there was one honest man who never refused a work assignment, which was precisely why he was the boss's favorite.
He accepted Zero's request, but after leaving him alone for a while, Zero popped back in and immediately realized something was wrong.
Why had the whole plot changed?!
Zero felt that his career was about to end almost as soon as it began. The boss would surely delete him! Huai Jianhe would definitely get fired too!
The other Systems listened to him complain and shook their heads meaningfully. "Trust me, nothing will happen to him."
"Why?" Zero didn't believe them.
"Didn't we tell you? He's deeply loved by the boss."
