The Dayao Dynasty has fallen. Consort Gu Mingzheng is escorted away by General Li Yan, but enemy soldiers ambush them on the way, and they both fall off a cliff.
As she dies, Consort Li is held tightly in Li Yan's arms. She thinks that though they could not share a bed in life, they will share a grave in death. She can be content with that.
Still, she feels somewhat guilty. Li Yan was once adopted by her Gu family, and they grew up together. Her family arranged for her to enter the palace, and he never married. In the end, he even lost his life for her.
Who would have thought that when she opened her eyes again, she would find herself in a foreign country, as a young wife in a rural village in 1980s China, with Li Yan as her husband?
Gu Mingzheng looks at Li Yan, who has returned from the army with a limp.
