Deborah Moore grew up in Willow Creek, a lush, winding river delta.
When the little town girl who grew up beneath the willows and beside the river celebrated her birthday and became a teenager, her parents, who were doing a ten-generation challenge, told her to move out.
"You're not the second generation we wanted," they said, patting their other daughter's shoulder.
So Deborah accepted it and took the five thousand Simoleons her parents gave her to find a cheap apartment in the Spice Market district of San Myshuno.
But as she was about to take all her luggage to the apartment, the willow leaves fluttering in the breeze faded away. The scene around her changed, as if someone were coloring it in with layers of oil pastel, becoming a steel jungle full of bustling voices and traffic.
"But I haven't even had a chance to call a cab," Deborah thought, then said aloud without meaning to. "Is this San Myshuno?"
"Of course not!" A masked man in a skintight suit, holding a white rope, zipped past her and shouted, "This is the Big Apple. Welcome to New York!"

Deborah had only just reached her teenage years and was worried, but fortunately, she had a few things in her personal inventory she could sell.
A rainbow trout, an elementary school homework book, free headphones from the company Beefy Like a Bull... Wait, maybe this bicycle could cover her utility bill!
Secondhand shop owner: "I'll give you twenty dollars if you show me one more time where you pulled that bicycle from."
Deborah looked confused as she pulled the bicycle out of her personal inventory. Its tire hit the ground with a thump.
