Shi Nian is a psychologist, the resident therapist at a psychiatric hospital, responsible for twelve patients.
After finishing work, Shi Nian takes a shower and happily settles into bed. But in the middle of the night, he suddenly has trouble breathing. When he opens his eyes, he sees someone strangling him.
"What are you doing?"
Liao Bo freezes, then pulls his hand back and looks at Shi Nian with a solemn expression. "Doctor, I'm sick."
"...I know. It's pretty obvious."
Liao Bo is a rich second-generation heir, the kind who's so rich it has made him lose his mind. He spends all day hanging around their psychiatric hospital, refusing to leave and insisting he's sick.
But the doctors have examined Liao Bo, and he has no mental illness.
Liao Bo says, "How could I not be sick?"
"Exactly. How could he not be sick?"
Those are Shi Nian's words. Besides Liao Bo, he's the only person in the entire psychiatric hospital who believes Liao Bo is sick.
The two sit at the stairwell. Liao Bo gloomily smokes one cigarette after another. Shi Nian steps over and pats him on the shoulder, offering reassurance. "Don't worry. Even if they don't believe you, I do!"
Liao Bo is touched. He thinks Shi Nian is the best doctor he's ever met.
"Thank you, Dr. Shi. A murderer has infiltrated our psychiatric hospital. Are you willing to believe me?"
Shi Nian's eye twitches. He suddenly remembers a line from a book: to heal patients with mental illness, you must set aside your own world and try to enter theirs.
But Liao Bo's world is too vast. Shi Nian has gotten lost.
