The Qin Prince, Song You, suffered from madness. He was violent and cruel, drinking people's blood and eating their flesh. He held even the Sage in contempt and was a figure the entire city of Chang'an was afraid to mention.
When word spread that the Sage was going to send more women to the Qin Prince's residence, the powerful noble families in Chang'an with unmarried daughters shut their gates tight. The capital was gripped by fear, and everyone hurried to arrange marriages before the Qin Prince could set his sights on their daughters.
The Marquis of Pingxi's residence was in a similar uproar, as the young ladies of the household were all being considered for marriage.
No one arranged a match for Meng Ping, whose mother had died when she was young, but she didn't mind. Her mind was entirely occupied with finding a way to save someone.
Some time earlier, Meng Ping had used her rudimentary medical skills to save a badly wounded man. He was handsome and refined, with an air of elegance, but when he woke, he knew nothing.
He didn't know his name or what he was supposed to do. He only knew that Meng Ping had saved him, and that he had to repay her kindness.
When Meng Ping admired a flower, he would pick it for her.
When she wanted something sweet, he would go out in the rain to buy it for her.
Wherever Meng Ping went, he followed at a distance, never letting anyone bully her.
He rarely spoke. Only when Meng Ping pressed him too hard would he blush and quietly say to her:
"You have been kind to me, miss. I must protect you."
"You are more beautiful than a celestial maiden."
"I... I dare to say... I like you, miss."
Until one day, Meng Ping saw the character engraved on the jade pendant he wore close to his body, a mark of his identity: Qin.
The Qin Prince, Song You.
Meng Ping: ...
Song You suffered from madness. When an episode struck, he lost all his memories and recognized no one. Every time it happened, he was left in a wretched state, despising himself.
After meeting Meng Ping, before each episode he would put a note in his clothes:
Do not hurt Miss Meng.
Do not let anyone bully Miss Meng.
Do not let Miss Meng learn who you are... She will be afraid.
One day, there was more written on the paper, in a graceful hand:
I love you. What have I to fear?
