Lin Fang is a woman who dresses as a man: a devious, unscrupulous, shameless, profit-driven lawyer who ignores right and wrong and turns truth on its head. She wins nine out of every ten lawsuits and has almost no losses. You might dislike her, but you simply can't get rid of her, and before you know it, you may even find yourself asking to learn from her.
Of course, behind her back, people prefer to call her a legal scoundrel.
A few things to know before diving in:
1. This is a historical legal drama told in episodic arcs. This is planned as the first season, with around four cases. Whether there will be a second season depends on whether you, my esteemed readers, approve. But since each case is independent, the story should still work without one.
2. The setting is fictional, inspired by the late Qing dynasty. Due to the author's personal aesthetic preferences, people don't shave their heads. The setting is very loosely based on history, so please don't scrutinize it. It won't stand up to close scrutiny.
3. There's both plot and romance, but the male lead is incidental. Don't worry about who the heroine ends up with. This is a story about a woman, so the male characters are all supporting characters.
4. The heroine is thirty-one when she first appears, so this is basically a story about mature men and women. A little intimacy between consenting adults doesn't have to mean anything. Only kids ask whether someone's a virgin; adults just care if they're good in bed.
Theme: The law must be believed in, or it is no more than an empty formality., Berman
