The year Ye Xingxing turned five, his mother died, and he was bound to a System. The System told him he was the greatest villain in the world and would destroy it in the future.
To ensure the world continued to run smoothly, the System had to reform and educate him.
Ye Xingxing didn't know what a villain was. Pointing at his uncle's family, who had stolen his mother's keepsake, he asked, "Is that why they took Mom's necklace, because I'm a villain?"
The System fell silent.
The next day, Ye Xingxing was driven out of the home where he'd always lived, clutching his mother's urn.
Crouched outside the front door with the urn in his arms, Ye Xingxing quietly asked the System again, "Is this part of reforming and educating a villain, too?"
After a long silence in his mind, a low, cold voice finally answered, "No. You did nothing wrong. They're the ones at fault."
With the System's help, Ye Xingxing drove his uncle's family away and reclaimed his mother's belongings.
The year he turned seven, Ye Xingxing's father finally showed up and brought him back to his wealthy family.
His stepmother was harsh, and his stepbrother looked at him coldly. Remembering the System's words, Ye Xingxing believed he was a villain and that everything happening to him was part of his reformation, something he deserved. He never fought back.
Until one day, his stepbrother acted completely out of character, took him back to his bedroom, and started taking off his clothes.
The System, which had always been calm and controlled, lost its mind for the first time. It frantically bought equipment from its own shop, gave the stepbrother a thorough beating, and took Ye Xingxing away from the wealthy family.
After that day, the System stopped trying to reform and educate Ye Xingxing.
It taught him to read, to defend himself, and how to get along with other people. It taught him how to grow up healthy and happy in this world.
With the System looking after him, Ye Xingxing graduated from elementary school without a hitch and got into a prestigious interstellar high school. At eighteen, he was accepted into the Interstellar Military Academy.
But on the day Ye Xingxing went to register at the school, the System disappeared.
No matter what he tried, Ye Xingxing couldn't find even the slightest trace of the System.
Until four years later, a piece of news that shook the entire interstellar community broke:
After four years in a coma due to the insectoid war, Major General Lu Jiming had finally awakened.
Ye Xingxing looked at that familiar face on the screen, and his eyes instantly reddened.
-
During an insectoid war, Lu Jiming was ambushed. He managed to escape with his troops, but fell into a coma himself.
The interstellar community said that its youngest and once-in-a-century star general had fallen.
But after losing consciousness, Lu Jiming was forced to become a System and was tasked with guiding a little villain back onto the right path.
At first, Lu Jiming resisted.
But in the end, he couldn't bear to watch the little child suffer so much bullying.
Lu Jiming raised him and taught him everything he knew about piloting a mecha.
So he never imagined that after waking up, during a simulated battle at school, the child he'd raised with his own hands would cut off one of his own arms in front of everyone and forfeit the chance to win, just one second away from taking the championship.
Lu Jiming was furious that he had hurt himself, and even angrier that after all these years, he still didn't know how to protect himself. He turned and left on the spot, refusing to visit him in the hospital.
It wasn't until he heard that Ye Xingxing was in a terrible state that he couldn't resist sneaking in to see him.
But the moment he stepped into the hospital room, the young man lying in bed rushed straight into his arms, eyes red and voice hoarse. "If I hadn't been hurt, were you planning to never see me again?"
Lu Jiming stiffened all over and lowered his head to inspect the young man carefully, only to find that he wasn't injured at all.
Only then did Lu Jiming realize that the child he'd raised seemed to have grown up all wrong again?
