Tsukikawa Tachibana, female, nickname Mikan.
Because I didn't want to inherit the family business, I worked up the courage to have a heart-to-heart with my mother, the clan leader. But since I hadn't found a dream I was willing to work hard for, I just wanted to get out from under the burden and blurted out, "I've always dreamed of becoming a powerful shrine maiden."
The good news: I didn't have to inherit the family business.
The bad news: My mother believed me and sent me off to become a shrine maiden.
Thanks for the invite. I'm in Tokyo, just got off the Shinkansen. I'm sixteen, and although I've inherited my grandmother's shrine, all I have besides my suitcase is a battered family heirloom. With so few resources, how am I supposed to save this deserted shrine? Become an idol?
Luckily, the old book really does have magical powers. The protective charms I made with it attracted a huge crowd of visitors, and the Higure Shrine flourished once more!
But as its popularity grew, I noticed that the ancient well in the little shrine in the back garden began to give off a dim glow at night, as if it were drawing someone fated to find it closer.
Of course, I wouldn't be stupid enough to go exploring somewhere that was obviously dangerous, like the protagonist in a horror movie. The only sensible thing to do was rope off the shrine and lock it up! I'd rather die than go inside! Being a popular shrine maiden at my thriving shrine is the right path for me!
If only that stupid phantom thief hadn't gotten involved, things would have stayed that way!
Unfortunately, there are no ifs. That guy and I were forced to set off on a journey to another world, where we tried every possible way to find our way back.
· Reader's Note
1. The whole story is written in the third person. The blurb uses the first person for convenience.
2. The pairing is with Kaito. Kaito and Aoko have a friendship in this story. If you don't like that, please don't force yourself to read it.
3. No characters will be vilified, but villains won't be redeemed, either.
4. That's all for now. I'll add more if I think of anything.
Moral: Let's go on a dreamy adventure!
