[Synopsis]
I’m going to kill It.
“Just as humans use a prism to refract sunlight into a rainbow, It uses the souls of lovers to reflect offspring known as the Scions...”
I’m reading that notebook again.
As the only sacrificial offering to survive the ritual, I was dragged against my will into that hot, damp, fleshy abyss, listening as It whispered blasphemous words of love deep in my cells, day and night, with a malice beyond comprehension:
“Beginning is ending, my little lover. No matter how you struggle, you will lose the ending ordained for humanity.”
Following the notebook’s instructions, I escaped the Golden Palace and boarded the Dionysus, the ship bound for my hometown, setting out toward a different ending. I witnessed a dying boy perform a dance of decapitation, a mad Dionysian priestess weep blood as she offered a sacrifice, and the young Mother of the Hidden Ones journey to the stars... It watched me like a shadow, but my answer would never change.
I miss the feeling of waves washing over my feet as I walk across a wet beach. I miss the scent of sea salt sprinkled over cheap grilled fish. I miss the sound of steamships sounding their horns in the fishing harbor... And I miss every ordinary, lonely day that lets me live to a ripe old age.
So I’m going to kill It.
