Jiang Rong transmigrates into a novel.
The novel is adapted from history and is about to be made into a TV series. It tells the story of the loyal and patriotic Ning family, who are framed by villains. They defend the city gates against the enemy, and all the family's sons die in battle. The women remain faithful and die for love. The family is then branded as traitors who colluded with the enemy. The only survivor, the sixth son of the Ning family, goes into hiding and quietly looks for a chance to clear his family's name.
As a specialist in playing villainous supporting characters, Jiang Rong gets the least-liked role in the book: the third female lead, who is also the woman whose body she transmigrates into.
The original owner is the daughter of a low-ranking official. After both her parents die, she travels to the capital to seek help from relatives. But when they see how beautiful she is, they arrange for her to marry an older widower. Unwilling to accept this, she has her maid spill soup on the Ning family's sixth son at a banquet, then sneaks into his room and pretends someone drugged her.
The sixth son of the Ning family has no way to defend himself. After the original owner returns home and threatens to kill herself, the Ning family has no choice but to marry her off. But the sixth son already loves someone else and refuses to marry her, so the fourth son steps forward instead. All six Ning brothers are as refined as jade and bamboo, especially the fourth, who is gentle, handsome, and as graceful as an immortal. He is also the Ning family's strategist.
Jiang Rong transmigrates into the story on the very day of the wedding.
The Ning family will be in trouble in just one year. According to the original owner's fate, she is the only one in the Ning family who is afraid of death and willing to betray them to save herself. To survive, she gets rid of the child in her womb, then uses the Ning family's political enemies to get into the palace and serve the old emperor, who favors her greatly. When she hears that the sixth son is still alive, she repeatedly makes trouble for him, resenting him for refusing to marry her.
In the end, he has her torn apart by five horses.
Just thinking about her tragic fate makes Jiang Rong tremble. She only took a role in a TV show, so why does she have to suffer like this?
