I'm a real bottle of liquor. A genuine, bona fide member of the Black Organization.
Sure, I complain every day that the organization's name isn't cool enough, the assignments are exhausting and dangerous, the pressure is intense and there's no therapist to help us cope, and my coworkers are more useless than the next. They're either double agents or walking blocks of wood. The only reliable one, Gin, is a coworker-murdering maniac...
The funniest thing is that this organization, full of more moles than a sieve, sent me, their precious real liquor, undercover in another organization? The main goal is to gather intel, and the secondary goal is to poach members.
Hello? Is something wrong with you? That's like walking into a tiger's den and letting the wolf inside.
Excerpt 1:
Me: That elementary school kid looks suspicious. Let me look into it.
Irish gives me a thumbs-up: Leave it to me!
Some time later, news comes in that Gin bombed Irish in an attack helicopter...
Me: ...?
Excerpt 2:
The organization I was sent to infiltrate assigned me to intelligence. I hear there are lots of ability users in this organization. Hah, do people really believe those urban legends?
My new colleague, Sakaguchi Ango, pushed up his glasses, the lenses reflecting an eerie light.
Excerpt 3:
Gin (on the phone): Thanks to Curaçao's help, a whole bunch of moles in the organization have been rooted out. We're short-staffed now. So, how many have you turned yet?
Me, already turned: ...Uh, well, I love Yokohama.
[Excerpt 4:
Me, after the boss sees right through my undercover identity: Damn, is this where it all ends?
Boss: True Liquor (yes, that's actually my name), what do you dislike about your current life?
Me: Huh?
Boss: I've spent the past few years working to improve the benefits for our members. True Liquor, you're already well acquainted with the pay and working conditions, so I won't go into that. Members' families are looked after if they die on the job, and we now have an in-house therapist to provide counseling for members assigned to high-pressure missions.
Me: !!
Boss: Members get promoted through transparent, public mission ratings. Each promotion comes with benefits, and once you reach a certain rank, we provide housing, your own apartment, as well as an annual company-paid trip!
Me: !!!
Boss: ...There's a lot more, but since you're with another organization, I can't reveal too many secrets. What a shame.
Me: !!!! Give me a chance to turn over a new leaf and join the good guys, Boss!!
Excerpt 5:
Gin: True Liquor! How dare you betray us!
Me, righteously: I was won over by the boss's bearing (and benefits)! Gin! For old times' sake, it's not too late to surrender now! (I get a commission for recruiting people.)]
P.S. I'm a genuine member of the Black Organization at first, and not very nice to the protagonist group (but even less nice to my coworkers). Later, I'm sent... The protagonist has an unwaveringly scientific worldview.
P.S. Very out of character, aiming for a lighthearted tone. I'll do my best to spare the tissues.
P.P.S. The protagonist has no supernatural abilities, but is very capable.
P.P.P.S. The author is a fan of Mori, so there may be some low-key praise for Mori... Or, more likely, he'll get picked on...
