Every novel has a few familiar roles: the protagonist, supporting characters, villains, bit players...
Xie Lan is neither the protagonist nor the villain, but a mysterious figure somewhere between a supporting character and a bit player.
The behind-the-scenes expert who always manages to come through at a crucial moment, or rescue the protagonist or a supporting character from the villain...!
[The Simple Version]
Xie Lan has three worries lately.
First: He went into seclusion for ten years, and when he emerged, the outside world had changed beyond recognition.
Second: He has acquired a rather impressive identity as a Gatekeeper, but he has to keep it secret.
Third: He has heard a terrifying rumor. Apparently, he's the mastermind behind everything in this world!!!
The cultivators from other realms have three worries lately, too.
First: How am I going to outsmart those old-fashioned cultivators from the cultivation world today?
Second: Should I steal the protagonist's resources or the supporting character's resources today?
Third: Where will Immortal Xie show up today???
[The Complicated Version]
Xie Lan has three worries lately.
First: He went into seclusion for ten years, and when he emerged, the outside world had changed beyond recognition.
The legendary Gate to Other Realms had opened, linking different worlds together. All sorts of strange people had appeared in their world and in their sect, keeping him, a disciple of the Discipline Hall, extremely busy.
Second: He has acquired a rather impressive identity as a Gatekeeper, but he has to keep it secret.
When the Gate to Other Realms opened, cracks appeared in it. These cracks not only caused spiritual energy to leak away, but also allowed ominous forces to seep into the world.
They say there's a Gatekeeper (a total scapegoat) who can repair the Gate to Other Realms. For the world's safety and peace, all the cultivators are looking for him, but he doesn't dare tell them that the Gatekeeper (total scapegoat) is him.
Because there's a good chance he's the one who caused the cracks in the Gate to Other Realms!
Third: He has heard a terrifying rumor. Apparently, he's the mastermind behind everything in this world!?
Hand on heart, Xie Lan knows perfectly well that he's just an utterly ordinary Golden Core cultivator. Even with his Gatekeeper identity, he's still very average and unremarkable in the cultivation world.
So why do these people from other realms look at him as if he's some great cultivator every time they see him? How do they always know where he'll appear, and why are they convinced he can solve every problem!!
The cultivators from other realms have three worries lately, too.
First: How am I going to outsmart those old-fashioned cultivators from the cultivation world today?
Second: Should I steal the protagonist's resources or the supporting character's resources today?
Third: Where will Immortal Xie show up today???
