[Everyday life / Hero in the darkness (cool guy) x bold, sunny girl]
The summer after Dai Ning finished her college entrance exams, a cool, mysterious man moved into the little courtyard next door.
He seemed like a secretive sort. One night, Dai Ning went out to take out the trash and saw him slumped beside the flower bed, his face covered in blood.
Dai Ning was so startled she was about to call the police when the man grabbed her hand and rasped, "Dai Ning, don't go."
She helped him home, then crouched in front of him and touched a scar beside his brow.
"Does it hurt?"
The man raised his dark eyes and stared at Ning Ning. They were the eyes of someone with a story to tell. Just a few seconds later, he lowered his eyelids and went back to cleaning his wound. He grimaced in pain but didn't make a sound.
Dai Ning suddenly leaned closer. "I'll blow on it, and then it won't hurt."
The girl was so close, and the heart buried deep beneath his hatred miraculously came back to life.
Later, the man was at death's door, lying in a pool of blood. As he lay dying, he kept murmuring, "Ning Ning, it hurts so much..."
