Two years ago, on the winter solstice, Jiang Yuefu first met Pei Jiashu.
Her adoptive mother was gravely ill, and Jiang Yuefu had nowhere to turn for medical help. She searched all night, and luckily Pei Jiashu introduced her to a renowned doctor.
She heard he was a young scion of an official family, famous from an early age, exceptionally gifted, and a proper gentleman. He had helped her simply because he was kindhearted.
Jiang Yuefu thanked him sincerely.
When they met again, a sudden turn of events had reduced Pei Jiashu to the status of a criminal's son, condemned to servitude.
Everyone said that the bright moon had been sullied and would never shine again.
Later, Jiang Yuefu joined Pei Jiashu in solving one complicated case after another. She investigated the truth behind the injustices, uncovered right and wrong, and saw that even a moon muddied in the mire could retain its pride and never lose its integrity.
She also discovered that, though he was mired in the mud, he gazed night after night at her departing figure, unwilling to let even the slightest stain touch her with his sincere love.

As the long-lost legitimate daughter of the Minister's household, Jiang Yuefu was fair-skinned, timid, consistently well-behaved, and good-natured, and was much loved by her family.
But when Pei Jiashu saw Jiang Yuefu, she had a sword pointed at someone and asked with a gentle smile:
"Did you kill them? Lie once, and I'll cut out your tongue."
