Every century leaves its stories behind. Some are buried in written records, others vanish into painted scrolls. The rarest survive only in the words of a handful of people.
They say a tall tower once stood in the old prince's residence. They say a young woman lived there. She loved climbing the tower to gaze at the homeland she could not see, and leaning against its cold walls to look at the moon she could not make out.
In her dreams were birds, fine horses, and a home. In her hands were bloodied stains, wounds, and a blade.
The king asked her, "Is there nothing else you wish for?"
She smiled without answering, then drove her blade into the king's chest and fled back to her home.
"And then?"
"And then..."
Then she crossed an empty sky without birds, raced over a wasteland without horses, and returned to a homeland without a country.
Then she used the blade that had killed the king to slit her slender wrists, traded the dead man's finery for her own clothes, and watered her land with all her blood.
Then she was buried with her country.
