On her first day at the company, Jin Ran dressed for battle, her presence turned up to eleven.
A colleague from the next desk whispered that the company’s internal power struggle had just ended, and the new director had the same overwhelming presence.
The elevator doors opened. The new director strode past in high heels, pausing by their desks.
Her colleague tugged at Jin Ran’s sleeve. “You’re wearing the same outfit. You’re done for.”
Jin Ran silently took off her battle gear and glanced at the new director.
She remembered that dusk two years ago, when the woman kissed her through a bridal veil, slipped a wedding ring onto her finger, and called her “wife.”
In public, she was a fearsome woman who ruled the business world. In private, she would bow her head and do anything to make Jin Ran happy.
Jin Ran looked down at the text she had just received: Aren’t you afraid of catching a cold?
She thought, I really am done for.

And it wasn’t over.
The client for the new project was her upperclassman, who had taught her how to navigate the world and broadened her horizons.
Back in school, all her youthful turmoil revolved around that gentle white moonlight. Sadly, after her family went bankrupt, they lost touch.
On the day of the negotiations, her white moonlight asked, “I heard you got married...”
“Yeah,” Jin Ran said. “And got divorced again.”
The light returned to her white moonlight’s dim eyes. She reached out to brush Jin Ran’s loose hair aside, as intimately as she had all those years ago. “Let’s have dinner together tonight, Ranran.”
Only two minutes earlier, she had called her Miss Jin.
After dinner, Jin Ran took her drunk white moonlight back to the hotel. The woman’s hot breath brushed Jin Ran’s neck.
“If I’d known you were open to dating women, I wouldn’t have held myself back so much.”

That night, after Jin Ran got home, the popular streamer who had kept her company through her darkest days messaged her to play a game.
The streamer killed the people who had bullied her on the city wall, all the way down to level zero.
Jin Ran rode a dragon to pick her up. From thousands of meters in the sky, the streamer leaped without hesitation and landed behind her.
Jin Ran: “Aren’t you afraid you’ll fall to your death?”
The streamer’s lovely voice brushed against her ear. “No. But I’m afraid you’d cry if I fell to my death. Your palms are sweating already.”
Before the stream ended, their game characters sat in a tree, turned to each other, and kissed.
In her headset, the streamer said, “I’m going to Shengcheng tomorrow. I want to meet you.”
The fans in the livestream chat screamed, “Aaaaaah! The ship I’ve been rooting for is meeting in real life!”
Jin Ran: Jianqiu, my head hurts so much.
