My Husband Is the Best

I am an ordinary princess of the mortal world, and I have a consort who is even more delicate than I am.

My husband was once an ordinary man, just a pale-faced scholar. But for my sake, he embarked on an extraordinary path.

He abandoned his ink and brush, took up a long sword, gave up wealth and power in the mortal world, and set out on the long road to immortality.

Once, he climbed to the highest heavens and descended into the darkest depths for me. Now he braves the Realm of Ten Thousand Deaths and slays the evil mother, all to find a divine medicine that can prolong my life.

Heaven's Will demands that he kill his wife to attain enlightenment. But he breaks the divine sword that once cleaved heaven and earth, kneels beside me, and lifts me from the mud as though I were a priceless treasure. Then he says to Heaven's Will:

"If everything I have now came at the cost of losing her, I'd rather never have had any of it."

"If losing her is the fate you speak of, then I will make an enemy of fate."

But my husband doesn't know that he really should kill me.

Because I am the heart-bone of the most evil fallen immortal in the world. I was gravely wounded in a battle against the light of the righteous path, and reincarnated in the mortal world to cling to life.

Only by killing me can the chaos end and peace return to the world, with clear rivers and calm seas.

Then he can ascend to immortality, and I can return to that faraway place that belongs to me.

So I pick up half of the broken sword and smile gently at my husband.

"Kill me."
