Synopsis:

"The best hunters often appear as prey."

The longest road Zhi Nian ever walked was Ji Sui's elaborate scheme.

Don't ask. Let's just say that falling for someone at first sight is never going to end well.

Zhi Nian has a bold look and an easygoing nature. A former child star, she's been controversial ever since her debut, with a constant stream of smear campaigns that nearly ruined her acting career.

Ji Sui has won countless awards in his three years in the industry and is a tireless workhorse in film and television. Cool and aloof, with devastating good looks that have won countless hearts, he has never been caught up in a single scandal and has a spotless reputation.

The two seem like an impossible match, yet their CP fandom has grown into a towering community.

Years ago, the two recorded a low-budget variety show together. They barely interacted at all, but their stunning looks earned them a CP fanbase.

After the show ended, they were never seen together again. Their fans made up their own romantic moments and kept shipping them without losing heart, and more and more people joined in.

A user on Zhihu asked: [Nian Sui CP] never interact. Why do people still ship them?

A fan replied: We ship them because they don't interact. The way they ignore each other is love!

A passerby: ???

An enthusiastic netizen explained: If you're bored and insist on shipping a couple, we wholeheartedly recommend [Nian Sui CP]. Just enjoy the aloof, distant energy between them. The fans say they're real, but everyone knows the two aren't even close and could never get together! They won't disappoint you, so have fun.

After reading the post and finding it persuasive, everyone happily got on board.

At the end of the year, the votes for "Most Impossible Couple" and "Best Couple" came in, and [Nian Sui CP] took first place in both.

One day, #JiSuiZhiNianRomance suddenly shot to the top of the trending list.

The CP fans who had always kept their shipping within the fandom responded rationally: No way! They don't know each other!

The trending topics that day were a sight to behold: #JiSuiZhiNianAreNotClose, #JiSuiZhiNianIsFake, #JiSuiZhiNianAreNotEvenFriends, #TheCPFansMakeUpAllTheSweetMomentsAndTheStarsKnowNothing...

After three days of trending topics, the whole world knew that Ji Sui and Zhi Nian didn't know each other, weren't dating, and could never be together.

Later, Zhi Nian signed up for a variety show with a surprise livestream as part of its promotion.

The door opened to reveal the prestigious actor Ji Sui in casual loungewear, looking every bit like the man of the house.

Netizens cried out: Are they neighbors?!

The cameraman wiped his sweat. He hadn't gone to the wrong house.

The director rushed to come up with a plan to cover it up.

A woman's voice came from inside: "Ji Sui, which closet is my turtleneck in?"

Then came the first public appearance of the pair everyone thought could never happen. The woman had unmistakable marks on her neck.

The CP fans screamed: Ahhhhh, how did we actually manage to ship a real couple?!
