Sometimes, while writing late at night, I suddenly feel like throwing up and have to rush to the bathroom to dry heave. I have to lie down afterward. My body really can't take it, and I've let everyone down. Note: The inspiration for the couples in this story comes from War and Beauty and Yuan Mei's “An Eulogy for My Younger Sister.” The hero and heroine are loosely based on historical figures. The hero's work in the Ministry of Justice, his skill at solving cases, fearsome appearance, integrity, and incorruptibility are all drawn from his historical inspiration. The hero's childhood experiences are based on several documented real-life cases. The past-life couples were inspired by the couples in War and Beauty: Sun Baiyang and Yu Ying, as well as Kong Wu and Consort Ru and An Qian. I love every female character in War and Beauty. At the end of the drama, all the consorts and couples meet tragic fates. To make up for the regret I feel over all the women's unhappy endings, I give the heroine in this story spiritual release and freedom in her past life. The author of “An Eulogy for My Younger Sister” studied and grew up alongside his sister. While he studied for the civil-service examinations and passed the jinshi exam, his sister later suffered an unhappy marriage, deteriorating health, and an early death from depression. This is one of the main inspirations for the story. In “An Eulogy for My Younger Sister,” the sister suffers under the constraints of feudal morality and the ideals of chastity, which is why the heroine in this story is written to resist traditional ideas. * Everyone enjoys different kinds of stories. Please don't discuss other authors or their works in the comments. Thank you. A respectful bow. * Blurb: Xie Chan is an orphan who has depended on others since childhood. To survive, she is cautious and painstakingly hard-working, worn out like a dog. At fourteen, she is forced to marry Prince Li Heng. At seventeen, she becomes empress. At twenty-one, she falls gravely ill and dies. After a lifetime of exhausting herself, she has only one wish as she lies on her deathbed: even if her title is stripped away, she does not want to be buried in the same tomb as the emperor who treated her like trash. This old lady is tired. I'm done serving you. When she opens her eyes again, Xie Chan discovers she's returned to the past. The orphan of the Xie family she used to be has vanished. She has become the ninth young lady of the Xie family in Jiangzhou. Her cousin is someone she knows well: Xie Jialang, the cruel, sharp-tongued traitor in the court of her past life, who will one day wield power over the court and become the emperor's greatest threat. In her past life, Xie Chan was empress and Xie Jialang was a minister. Reborn in a different identity, Xie Chan has learned her lesson: she worked herself to the bone in her last life, only to be betrayed by a rotten man. This time, she decides to lie flat, content to be a little fish watching the chancellor from the sidelines. * Li Heng is cold and ruthless, willing to sacrifice anything for power. He once thought that the love and hate between him and Xie Chan would bind them together for a lifetime. But when he looks back, he can no longer see her anywhere. The realm stretches for thousands of miles, and death has parted them forever. * In his youth, Xie Jialang was stern and upright, impartial and revered by the people. Later, he held supreme power and was reviled by all. Every spring, Chancellor Xie makes a lantern. He gazes up at the bright moon in the heavens and murmurs, “Your Majesty, the lantern is ready.” But Your Majesty is dead. [Reading Guide] 1. They are not blood relatives. While their family relationship remains in place, their bond is purely familial. 2. The heroine does not transmigrate into a different body. After being reborn, her changed fate makes her mistakenly believe she has transmigrated. 3. Since a supporting character transmigrates in her past life, a court lady who is the only person close to the heroine to leave the harem, the story is listed in the historical transmigration category.
