Hold On, Let Me Become Emperor First

Once I reach the very top and make my name immortal, as long as civilization endures, my “fans” can worship me as a god. P.S. This is not a multiple love interest story. It focuses on the plot and includes nation-building. The female lead rises from nothing to become emperor. There is a male lead, who appears early on, but he’s more of a background character in the romance. (The female and male leads are on opposing sides, and their other feelings for each other run deeper than romantic love.) This is not a conventional feudal warlord-competition story. It incorporates battles fought with the power of words, features a small ensemble cast, and takes place in an alternate historical setting. Both men and women can hold office, and official titles are drawn from various dynasties, so please don’t nitpick! My writing skills are limited, and the logic serves the plot. Please be understanding if you spot any plot holes. In this story, both men and women can become pregnant. Cheng Xi immediately grips the Grand Marshal’s hands, tears in her eyes. “No one knows a son better than his father. A wise ruler does not avoid recommending a relative. Your Excellency is truly noble! I shall issue an edict promoting that man at once, and your son will never be appointed!” The expression on the Grand Marshal’s face dries up completely. A member of the royal clan is accused of seizing rice paddies and forcing innocent people into slavery. Cheng Xi’s cousin kneels before her, weeping and admitting his wrongdoing, but in truth he’s trying to play on her feelings to lessen his punishment. Instead, Cheng Xi writes an edict through her tears, her heart aching. “My cousin is willing to confess and accept his punishment. Though this pierces my heart, I can only honor his wishes. Which would you prefer, cousin: poisoned wine or swallowing gold? Which do you think would be less painful?” Her cousin, the Prince: What?! A warlord, under suspicion from the central court, tearfully swears loyalty to Cheng Xi and offers to join the central government, hoping that this show of surrender will dispel her doubts. But Cheng Xi is so moved that she bursts into tears and issues an edict on the spot. “Your Excellency is truly devoted to the greater good! I shall immediately begin preparations for your state to be dissolved, and proclaim your noble deed throughout the land!” The warlord of Chen faints, his eyes losing all their light. Cheng Xi diligently follows the System’s instructions and fulfills the demands of her officials and warlords. Years later, the land is unified. The System’s lie detector no longer goes off. Cheng Xi looks at the court officials, all of whose loyalty scores are maxed out, and falls into a long silence. Theme: When you bloom, the gentle breeze will come.
