A Beauty as Lovely as Jade

Wen Siyu, the ninth young lady of the Wen family, is just as her name suggests: breathtakingly beautiful, with a face as lovely as jade.

After marrying into the Xu family, Wen Siyu eats well, drinks well, and bounces around the Xu residence every day. She enjoys a life fit for the immortals for a long time before belatedly realizing that her husband has never once stayed the night...

How can that be?

Wouldn’t that mean her beauty is going to waste?

So Wen Siyu dresses to the nines and marches into her husband’s study, full of confidence. With a bashful, affectionate look, she pretends to be troubled. “Husband, I just can’t get my eyebrows right today.”

Xu Jinchu, the capital’s most esteemed young gentleman, keeps his eyes on the chessboard and doesn’t even look up. “Have you finished reading the family rules?”

Wen Siyu’s pretty face freezes. There are family rules? What a relic of the past!

Undeterred, she tells herself that with her beauty and intelligence, what do family rules matter? Smiling, she picks up a black stone and joins her husband for a game.

But before long, she’s thoroughly crushed. Her rosy cheeks turn pale, then paler still, and her round eyes grow redder and redder. After holding back again and again, she grabs her skirt and runs off.

After losing battle after battle, Wen Siyu finally figures it out and grits her teeth in indignation. “So much for the peerless gentleman. Turns out he’s all show and no go.”

At that very moment, the “all show and no go” gentleman happens to walk behind her...

Later, on a summer afternoon, rain patters on the banana leaves, and hairpins and jeweled ornaments lie scattered beneath the armchair.

Wen Siyu lies in Xu Jinchu’s arms, her hair in disarray and her beauty radiant. Her almond-shaped eyes glisten as she says, “It’s broad daylight. Stop teaching me such improper things.”

Xu Jinchu gently pinches his wife’s crimson earlobe with his cool, pale fingers and smiles. “As you wish, my lady.”

A beautifully polished, adorably clueless beauty with a fearsome competitive streak, paired with a seemingly frail but secretly cunning minister.
