Song Ji hasn't seen Shi Chuan for ten years, ever since that rainy night. Hiding in a corner of the parking lot, he watches Shi Chuan secretly, just as he did years ago, as Shi Chuan is surrounded by servants and drives away in a luxury car. Song Ji can't help thinking that Shi Chuan really is a born favorite of heaven. He still puts on the same grand airs.

He looks just as irritating as ever. After being so harshly scolded tonight, Shi Chuan probably won't come back.

But Shi Chuan comes again the next evening. Memories of their youth surge back, finally turning into a sharp pain in the scar on Song Ji's chest. Song Ji hangs up on a call about an overdue bill, takes out his payment QR code, and walks up to Shi Chuan. "Didn't you say you'd take me away? It's ten thousand a month. Pay me now. Once you've paid... you can do whatever you want with me."

The person he hated most has gone from being the object of his youthful affection to his sugar daddy.

But Song Ji thinks it over and decides that since he hates Shi Chuan so much, has pointed at his head and cursed him time and again, and can still get Shi Chuan to spend money on him, that takes a certain talent.

It's only one year. When he thinks about it, it doesn't seem like a bad deal.

What Song Ji doesn't expect is that Shi Chuan is still as gentle and considerate as ever, even more so than when they were young.

"President Shi is good to everyone around him," his secretary says, summing it up in one sentence. Song Ji suddenly understands, and thinks, That was a close one.

Shi Chuan's warmth makes him feel as if he were cherished above all else. If he really falls for him, the joke from years ago will repeat itself, and then he'd truly be a fool.

"You don't have to be so good to me. I don't hate you as much anymore," Song Ji says.

Shi Chuan slowly moves closer and draws him into his arms. "If I'm not good to you, I'm afraid you'll knock my head off."

Love and hate are born together, like twin flowers blooming on the same stem. They wax and wane, pulling at each other.

Love gave birth to an indelible hatred, and then to a compassion that would never fade.

It gave birth to the dark, helpless, and humble parts of me, and also to a courage that nothing could break.

"Shi Chuan, thank you for giving me proof that you love me."

Content warnings (please read!):

1. Shi Chuan x Song Ji. Gentle top x hot-tempered bottom. From school days to city life, though there isn't much school-life content. You could call them childhood friends, give or take. The top has a disability that will not get better, and later ends up in the ICU. There are caregiving scenes, so don't read if that's not for you. The bottom later goes mad, genuinely mad, to the point of being admitted to a psychiatric hospital, so don't read if that's not for you either.

2. There is a very twisted villain in the story, responsible for most of the tragedies. Don't read if you can't handle a psychologically disturbed, deranged pervert.

3. As usual, this is a slow, angsty story. Both the top and bottom will suffer, so it won't be just one of them. Readers who are extreme top- or bottom-stans should avoid it.

4. I really don't know how to write a blurb anymore. This is already the third revision. My logic, prose, and writing skills are all buried under a gravestone. The style is unusual, the pacing is ridiculously slow, and there's a lot of rambling. Read it if you like it; if you don't, close it. Insulting people is wrong, and insulting me won't do you any good.
