After witnessing her brother-in-law's breathtakingly awful antics, Gemis angrily picked up her paintbrush and set out to become a manga artist.
Albatross News publisher: I can give you a column, no problem. But aren't you afraid your brother-in-law will come after you?
Gemis, surprised: Why would he? I'm promoting him, aren't I? I'm sure the underground scoundrels will love it. He still hasn't paid his advertising bill.
Before long, a comic called "Sora the Sea Warrior" became a sensation across the North Blue.
Gemis: It's time to start a studio.
Albatross News publisher, rubbing his wings expectantly: So I'll get more material from you, right?
Gemis: That's right. I've found a few assistants: a blond who trips over flat ground, a cool guy in a spotted hat, an orange-haired guy with a cross-shaped scar on his chin...
Albatross News publisher: What are you talking about?
Gemis: It's time to head into the Grand Line for research! No issue this month!
Albatross News publisher: ??? Wait!

Marineford, Mary Geoise, the Four Emperors' strongholds, the Seven Warlords' hometowns, the Worst Generation...
Gemis's eyes lit up: Wow! They're all perfect subjects for my research!
Later, faced with an overwhelming amount of material, Gemis fell into deep thought:
Should the next series be "Be My Son! The Bearded Man's Bizarre Journey into Fatherhood"? Or "Tales of a Lonely Island: The Life-and-Death Entanglement of Ice and Fire and the Echoes of Youth"? Actually, "Beneath the Birdcage: A Vow to Face Death Together" sounds good too.
But the short comic she's already serializing, "This World's Greatest Swordsman Just Has to Love Farming!", isn't finished yet...

Gemis's manga studio is a presence in the Grand Line that people both love and hate.
She dares to draw anything and works tirelessly, always armed with fresh, firsthand material. The studio's research assistants seem to be everywhere, making people wonder if she shares an intelligence network with Morgans, or if she's actually one of Morgans's aliases.
At the same time, though, she brings people laughter and hope: her brilliant brushstrokes cover a bleak future and depict the road to dawn.

Bonus scene: "There's a Traitor Among Us"
A meeting of some of the Worst Generation, all from the North Blue--
Cool Spotted Hat: I'm a respectable reader who roots for Sora the Sea Warrior.
Orange Hair with Cross-Shaped Scar: So am I.
Straw-Hat Fortune Teller: +1
Cool Spotted Hat: I know all about that bastard Germa's scientific gear.
Orange Hair with Cross-Shaped Scar: So do I.
Straw-Hat Fortune Teller: +1
Cool Spotted Hat: I have a signed copy from the author, and I'm also one of the author's research assistants.
Orange Hair with Cross-Shaped Scar: So am I.
Straw-Hat Fortune Teller: ??
The Straw-Hat Fortune Teller silently turned his gaze toward the passing blond with curly eyebrows, trying to get the conversation back on track: I think I've found the trai--
The blond with curly eyebrows, a fake North Blue native, interrupted with a cigarette between his lips:
I'm not a respectable reader who roots for Sora the Sea Warrior; I don't know anything about that bastard Germa's scientific gear and have no desire to learn; I don't have a signed copy from the author, and I'm definitely not one of the author's research assistants... But I do know the author has been saving up a big portrait-rights fee for me.
