Cold Mountains by the Border [Farming]

Next story: "Changxun Slope [Farming]". Feel free to visit my profile and add my other two farming novels to your reading list. Their synopses are too long to include here. Thank you. Li Qingwen transmigrated into another world in the body of a boy who had been mentally disabled since childhood. His family was large and their land was scarce, so he started thinking of ways to earn money and keep everyone fed. He made candy and came up with a sliding-block game... Then, by chance, he saw Jiang Cong, the man who had once saved his life, in the county town. At the time, Jiang Cong was a convicted criminal being escorted to the far north. His leg was badly injured, and the delay in treatment had made it much worse. He could barely walk, let alone make the thousand-mile journey to his place of exile. Li Qingwen and his older brother decided to escort their benefactor to the border town. The borderlands were bitterly cold. Snow fell in August, and frost held sway for more than half the year. Wild beasts prowled the wilderness, while the Luoche Kingdom constantly harassed them from the north and the Puju people eyed them hungrily from the east. The exiles had to farm, feed horses, build cities, and fight. They were always on the run, and every exile dreamed of an amnesty from the imperial court. Li Qingwen proposed earning merits through their own efforts to atone for their crimes. Together with everyone else, he planted trees, cleared wasteland, grew medicinal herbs, built roads, dug canals, excavated a shipping canal, and opened up trade. Hundreds of thousands of mu of barren mountains turned green, wasteland became fertile fields, and the border town became a jewel beyond the frontier. Though Jiang Cong was trapped in adversity, he never lost heart. He repeatedly distinguished himself on the battlefield, refusing to yield to hardship, and in the end, seized his freedom with his own hands. Theme: Even in adversity, keep striving. A love of farming never fades.
