The Concubine Becomes a Wife

[This novel is complete. Little angels who have been saving it up can dive in now!]

[My new novel, The Palace Maid's Rise to Power, is now underway. Please add it to your collection!]

In the thirtieth year of the Shunyu era, a severe drought struck the Wuzhou region, leaving the people in dire straits. The Marquis of Jianyi was dispatched by imperial decree to provide disaster relief.

The Wuzhou prefect's daughter-in-law had bewitching eyes and a voice that sang Jiangnan tunes, her soft Wu dialect sweet enough to melt the heart.

The first time Li Sheng saw Rong Yue, she was singing a little tune to the prefect's son in a coquettish voice.

The second time Li Sheng saw Rong Yue, she was in a carriage with the prefect's son. A hint of a sob colored her voice as broken sounds escaped her. That night, Li Sheng called for cold water twice.

The third time Li Sheng saw Rong Yue, she was serving porridge at a relief station, her expression gentle. No one could tell how coquettish she became in front of that man.

After seeing Rong Yue three times, Li Sheng began to want to take her for himself. He wanted to hear her sing just for him, day and night, her voice sweet and quivering.

P.S. This is a fictional setting! If there are objective plot holes, just assume they are authorial inventions.

This is a one-on-one romance. I don't know if it's sweet.

They didn't literally meet only three times in the main story.

Everyone has different tastes. If you like it, stay; if you don't, move on.

[Reason for entering the competition: The protagonist improves farming tools early in the story and leads refugees through the drought.]

[, Upcoming novel: The Palace Maid's Rise to Power. Please pre-save it, ]

Synopsis:

The year A Yu entered the palace, a new emperor had just ascended the throne.

When the palace maids were assigned, she was sent to Yujing Palace to serve Consort Rong, who enjoyed a measure of favor.

She had just turned twelve that year.

Three years later, a new selection brought fresh faces into the palace, and Consort Rong gradually fell out of favor.

People climb toward higher ground, while water flows downhill.

The people of Yujing Palace each sought their own way forward, but from beginning to end, A Yu had her sights set on just one person.

When Feng Yu first ascended the throne, he rarely visited the harem.

Then one day, at Consort Rong's quarters, he encountered a young maid. Her hands were soft and boneless, like fine jade, and they caught his eye.

Later, her three thousand strands of black hair fell behind her as she boldly hooked her fingers into his belt. Her beautiful eyes seemed shy and bashful.

“This servant is here to attend to Your Majesty...”

Theme: Even when trapped in desperate circumstances, one must never give up.
