The Substitute Is the Strongest in the Immortal Realm

Legend says a saintess with the bloodline of the phoenix will bring peace to the cultivation world. Five years after the saintess of Chui Xing Sect was abducted, the Immortal Venerable brought back another young woman with the bloodline of the phoenix. Many people treated Guan Han as a stand-in for their idealized beloved. Her master said, "The woman you admire is compassionate and kind, and never turns away a patient who comes to her. Her master looked around. "Hey, where's my disciple?" The senior brother said, "The first time the woman you admire held a needle, she learned how to save people by needling their meridians. A year later, her original acupuncture technique was famous far and wide. You should at least be a third as accomplished as she is." But on the first day Guan Han got a needle, she ran off to Beast-Taming Peak and learned how to neuter piglets with needle and thread. By the seventh day, Guan Han's original "Thirty-Six Painless Sterilization Procedures" had been added to Beast-Taming Peak's textbooks, and she earned a twenty-percent royalty share from the intellectual property every year. Without even looking up, Guan Han counted the mountain of spirit stones beside her and casually remarked, "Actually, this procedure would work on humans, too." Her senior brother shot to his feet. "Wait, where did my virility go?" The Demon Lord said, "The woman you admire is poetic and eloquent, and there is always a trace of sorrow in her eyes. You're not even worthy of one of her fingers." Guan Han thought for a moment, then answered with complete sincerity, "How about I recite a poem for you, too?" "Drag them out and burn them, burn them to ashes, then scatter their ashes to the wind." Sure enough, Guan Han cremated the Demon Lord on the spot and scattered his ashes all the way down the road. The Demon Lord died with his eyes wide open. "Hey, where are my ashes?" * The men who were all bark and no bite used to smugly say, "We know you must secretly resent the woman we admire." Guan Han: "Nuh-uh, I really don't hate her." The problem was those men, whose brains were full of water, treating her as a substitute. Not long afterward, Guan Han infiltrated the demon realm and met the woman they all adored. Later histories of cultivation would call that meeting "the beginning of the downfall of the great powers of the cultivation world." Much later, only when phoenix-red flames covered the entire continent did everyone suddenly realize that they had misunderstood the legend all along. Reader's Notes: 1.
