Mi Liang, a failed writer of cold fantasy novels, was given a chance to be reborn after his death. But an accident occurred during the process, and half his soul shattered into fragments scattered throughout the unfinished stories he had written.
To recover his lost soul, he must enter those stories and find a reasonable way to set each world back in motion.
In a remote seaside town, Mi Liang is a down-and-out musician and one of the heroine's potential love interests. The hero is a traveling magician, while the other half of Mi Liang's soul is a deep-sea monster about to destroy the town.
In a strange little city shrouded in black mist, he is a frail, sickly dollmaker and the heroine's adoptive father. The hero is a detective investigating a series of bizarre cases, while a fragment of Mi Liang's soul has become one of the exquisite dolls he made.
In a prosperous magical kingdom, he is a dazzling golden bird, the heroine's guardian spirit, while the hero is a young king. He fails to find the rest of his soul until, years later, war engulfs the kingdom and that boy summons him once more...
[Notes]
1. He is both the pursuer and the pursued. Mi Liang's soul is split in two, so you can read this as a conventional story with him as the recipient of affection.
2. A satisfying, feel-good story. Mi Liang is simply learning to love himself and gradually growing.
3. Some of the mini-worlds have happy endings, while others have tragic endings.
Theme: Self-redemption and a dialogue with oneself.
