The Bird in His Cage

At the performing arts department's freshman welcome banquet, Ye Xiruo is given a hard time by a popular senior. When she turns her head, she sees a man sitting alone in the corner, his expression cold and his dark eyes fixed on her.

It is the look of a lone wolf watching its prey.

That night, Ye Xiruo receives a hotel key card. From then on, she becomes entangled with Cheng Jing.

Ye Xiruo thinks she can keep things going with Cheng Jing like this forever, even though he never tells her he loves her.

Until one night, after drinking too much and staying at a hotel, Ye Xiruo buries her head against the man's chest, her long hair spread gently over him, and softly asks:

"Young Master Jing, will you get married?"

He only chuckles, threading his fingers through her dark hair and tenderly kissing the woman before him.

Ye Xiruo sees the engagement ring on his hand. It digs painfully into her scalp.

So the fierce possessiveness in his eyes had never meant he loved her.

When they meet again, he is still the aloof, untouchable bachelor heir, looking down on everyone, with women coming and going at his side.

She enters the entertainment industry, and while pursuing a role, she is given a hard time by a group of investors in a private room with the door shut.

Beneath the lights, the familiar man looks relaxed and indifferent, a teasing smile on his lazy face.

"Xiruo, after all these years, how are you still letting people bully you?"

He holds her as she struggles not to cry. "Come back to me, okay?"

Cheng Jing has spent years in a position of power. He knows only how to take, never how to love.

Until one late night, she suddenly vanishes. The people he sends search all night across Jicheng, but there is no trace of her.

As if she had never been there.

For the first time in his life, the heir, so accustomed to taking and possessing, tastes what it means to lose someone.
