Sweet, obedient innocent flower x flamboyant, proud young master
Stealing someone's partner / rivalry between men / forbidden-relationship tension
--
Lu Jingheng hates Nan Zhi, his future sister-in-law.
When Lu Yanchen failed to show up at their engagement banquet, Nan Zhi stood awkwardly onstage, her slender waist wrapped in a red dress, the corners of her eyes red.
Lu Jingheng leaned back in his chair, watching coldly as she clutched her skirt. She looked like a sweet, delicate porcelain doll, the sort of sight that tugged at one's heartstrings. But he thought to himself:
That face was clearly made to seduce people.
*
Nan Zhi had long heard that the two Lu brothers had very different personalities.
The older brother was reserved and steady, while the younger, Lu Jingheng, was thoroughly rotten.
Then one day, Madam Shen began arranging a matchmaking date for Lu Jingheng.
Nan Zhi sat nearby, peeling a tangerine and occasionally joining the conversation.
When they asked him about his ideal type,
Lu Jingheng walked straight over to Nan Zhi, bent down, and plucked the tangerine she had just peeled right from her hand. His lips brushed her fingers. Then he straightened and said, "I like someone like my sister-in-law."
*
That night, Nan Zhi knocked on Lu Jingheng's door and summoned her courage to say, "You can't use me as a shield like this. Your brother and I are supposed to marry for an alliance."
Lu Jingheng had just showered. Water dripped from his hair and ran down past his collarbone.
He suddenly laughed, pulled her into the room, and pinned her against the wall. "But who is it that Zhi Zhi really likes?"
Lu Yanchen's knock suddenly sounded from outside the door.
Nan Zhi stiffened, but at that moment Lu Jingheng lowered his head and kissed her.
She knew she should pull away, but when her palm pressed against his chest and she felt his racing heartbeat, her fingers curled involuntarily into his clothes.
"Shaking like this... afraid he'll find out?"
Lu Jingheng's hot breath enveloped her.
The doorknob turned a fraction.
Nan Zhi suddenly grabbed his lapels and pleaded with him to stop with her eyes.
The footsteps outside the door came to a halt.
The next second, Lu Jingheng clasped the back of her neck and whispered in her ear, "Will my brother find out who his fiancee is with right now?"
*
Nan Zhi asked to call off the engagement.
Lu Yanchen's gaze swept over Nan Zhi's reddened lips, his expression dark. "Explain."
Lu Jingheng leaned lazily against the wall and raised a hand to wipe the corner of his mouth. "Explain what?"
"Zhi Zhi."
Lu Yanchen looked at Nan Zhi, his voice trembling. "He seduced you. You were just led astray, weren't you?"
Lu Jingheng laughed and draped an arm over Nan Zhi's shoulder. "Brother, you didn't even show up at the engagement banquet. Why do you care about this now?"
Lu Yanchen clenched his fingers, veins standing out. "Lu Jingheng! She's your sister-in-law!"
"What kind of sister-in-law is she?"
Lu Jingheng tilted his head, his eyes openly challenging. "There's still time to change the groom."
[He thought she was trying to seduce him. In the end, he was the one who fell in love at first sight, completely besotted.]
Reading guide:
1. Her fiance didn't attend the engagement banquet, and she and his brother never officially dated.
2. The male lead has few moral scruples. Expect a dramatic love triangle and rivalry between men.
3. Both brothers are devoted to only one person, body and soul.
4. The heroine is a sweet, obedient girl and her personality will not change. She has a slight everyone-loves-her quality.
