The Cranes Cry in the Marsh

Middle school cringe... The delusions of a kid in the late stages of chuunibyou. Don't read.

Give me some time, and all under Heaven, the five regions and eight clans, will kneel at my feet.

Jiang Tan

Jiang Tan, the most esteemed eldest princess of the divine clan and the strongest contender for the throne of the Divine King. One song from her could move the world, and the lords of every direction came to pay homage. If she wanted to pluck the stars and moon, thousands would rush to do it for her.

Yue Sheng: "Your Highness, we've paved the way for you. As long as you don't go stirring up trouble, the throne of the Divine King is yours for the taking."

Jiang Tan: "I just tore apart the underworld and the Yellow Springs."

Yue Sheng: "???"

Gu An: "Your Highness, all you need to do is follow the ancient rites, and you can become the supreme ruler of the divine clan."

Jiang Tan: "The sacred texts? I'll just tear them up."

Gu An: "???"

Zhao Yang: "Your Highness, you were born with everything. What could you possibly still want?"

Jiang Tan: "Actually, I want to ask, 'Are kings and nobles born to rule?'"

Zhao Yang: "???"

1. Set in ancient times, with traditional creation myths such as Pangu creating the world and Nuwa mending the sky as its background.

2. Not a primordial wilderness-style story. The setting is original.

3. Because of the setting, it retains the matriarchal clan traits of ancient times, but it is not purely female-dominated. Those in power can be men or women. By law and tradition, the throne should be inherited by a woman. (But the heroine's maternal grandfather once staged a coup, defeated his elder sister, and ascended the throne. Later, he returned it to his own daughter.)

Theme: Even in a turbid world, people should hold fast to their original principles and act with integrity, creating a better world together through love and tolerance.
