On the other end of the phone, young Shen Yao's voice was calm yet tender. “Lu Xiao, remember this sequence of numbers. It represents my love for you...”

Shen Yao looked as if he'd heard something hilarious. “I called you? How could that be? Do you think I could ever like you?”
Lu Xiao grabbed him by the collar. “Damn it! What's not to like about me?”

Even though there was no explaining that accidental “love confession call,” Lu Xiao still won the beauty's heart in the end. He thought he'd found his happy ending with the school's dream boy, but their sweet romance came to an abrupt end in the summer of their senior year.

Lu Xiao, captain of the city bureau's criminal investigation team, stubbed out his eighteenth cigarette and looked at the suspect in a missing-person case sitting across from him: Shen Yao, a nationally renowned physics professor.
The man before him had eyes as indifferent as the wind. “Officer Lu, you brought me here without following proper procedure. Don't you owe me an explanation?”

Just then, another love confession call from Shen Yao came through on Lu Xiao's phone. Shen Yao's voice on the line was full of tenderness. “Lu Xiao, I never believed in eternity, but I'll love you forever, ”
But they were sitting face-to-face, staring at each other, less than half a meter apart.
“Perhaps every truth in this world can be traced to its source. But even without airtight scientific proof, I will always believe that the love I feel for you is real, and never unreasonable.”
Lu Xiao sneered. “Professor Shen, shouldn't you explain why you're harassing a public servant without permission?”
Shen Yao was just as he had been in high school. “Do you think I would say something like that?”
Lu Xiao: “Are you a person or a ghost?”
Shen Yao: “A committed materialist.”
Tips:
(1) A devoted one-on-one pairing between two strong characters, with a happy ending. The male lead is a man in his thirties, and his approach to romance is relatively simple and blunt.
(2) The criminal investigation is not entirely realistic. Starting with the second case, it has nothing to do with classic mystery. Readers who enjoy detective fiction, please take note.
(3) The physics is half physics and half science fiction. A few physics concepts draw inspiration from Ant-Man, Interstellar, Avengers: Endgame, The Wandering Earth, and others... When in doubt, blame quantum mechanics.
