A Guide to Getting By as a Qin Dynasty Civil Servant

In 221 BCE, China's first unified empire was founded. Though the smoke of war had cleared, undercurrents still surged. While the northern lands were making preparations for war, Mu Bai, a mission-taker assigned to promote culture during the Second World War, opened his eyes in a region the people of the Central Plains called the land of the southern barbarians. His mission this time was still to promote Hanfu, but the ruling power was now Qin. Fortunately, the Han dynasty was only sixteen years away, and he was young enough to wait. The family he'd been sent to was already in a place far removed from war, a heaven-sent spot. All he had to do was lie low here and wait for the mission to be completed! His new home was great in every way, except that everything was a little backward... Since he was here, and had nothing else to do, why not roll up his sleeves and improve their lives a bit? Little Mu Bai's everyday life: Catch fish, raise ducks, roll duck eggs, and, when he has nothing better to do, go pick a fight with the world boss at the water fort. The court wants to build imperial roads? Sure! We can build a post station and sell local specialties along the way. I'll be my family's spokesperson. The court needs huge trees to build palace chambers? No problem, we have mountains and trees aplenty. It's just... hard to transport them. Surely it's not too much to ask for funds to dredge the waterways? The court wants to crack down on bandits and send prisoners to Xianyang? Well, um, people here farm and weave, fish and raise silkworms. Even the little children are raising rabbits. We haven't had any lawbreakers around for ages! We're all honest folk! You ask who I am? Just a lowly clerk from Poyang Lake. Theme: A little about Hanfu, even though the Han dynasty hasn't been founded yet.
