Bai Su was the first little white snake to crawl out of the Sealed Demon Realm. He was bewildered to find that the human world was completely different from what he'd learned about in the realm.
The person who called himself Bai Su's guide gave him nothing but a handbook. But since Bai Su couldn't read the writing of this era, he was still as clueless as his own white snake form.
So people caught him, sold him, and used him to make liquor.
Bai Su: "Um... Are humans really necessary?"
But humans were Heaven's favorites, and he was a big-hearted snake. He wouldn't stoop to their level.
That was until he ended up in the home of a wealthy man with an odd fate, one who brought good fortune to others at his own expense. Bai Su decided to stay.
Han Ling had once been told that he was blessed by three lucky stars, destined for great fortune and a long life.
Yet he'd ended up a cursed loner, beset by misfortune, with little luck and a short life.
His life was shrouded in darkness. Just when it was about to crush him, he met a white snake who claimed he wasn't a snake.
The white snake told him that someone had switched his fate and placed a curse on him. Without the help of a benefactor, he was destined for a life of hardship and poverty.
And that benefactor was the white snake himself.
But it wasn't long before Han Ling realized that Bai Su might not be all that reliable.
Bai Su held the cat Han Ling had raised and pointed at the chinchilla. "Don't you have provisions? Why do you say you can't afford meat?"
Han Ling's scalp prickled. "They're pets. You can't eat them!"
Bai Su said, "They've never thought of themselves as pets."
What did little animals know? Han Ling sighed.
So while Han Ling was at work, Bai Su enlightened the cat and the mouse, teaching them to help with the housework. "Han Ling has had a hard life. Raising two more freeloaders who eat all day and never work would make it even harder. From now on, you'll help with the chores."
Then one day, Han Ling came home from work and saw his cat, who usually acted like it owned the place, carrying his slippers over to him.
When he lay down on the sofa to rest, the cat brought him a blanket.
When he got hungry and went to make instant noodles, the cat pushed its cat food in front of him and invited him to eat.
Even more terrifyingly, the next morning he found his cat using the toilet.
The white snake coiled on the table, holding itself upright and declaring proudly, "As a member of this household, you can't just sit around eating and waiting to die."
"???" All Han Ling could think was that no one was allowed to become a spirit after the founding of the country.
