After Lan Ze dies in an accident, he wakes to find himself back at seventeen, just as everything was beginning.
He is still underage. He hasn't made a name for himself at military school, nor has he fought across the major star systems over the past three years. More importantly, he hasn't yet met the male insect who accompanied him throughout more than a decade of military service and died alongside him.
Why did Chi, who was unwilling to accept him, give up his own life to save him?
Lan Ze gathers intelligence from every corner, contacts his hidden informants, and uses threats and inducements, trying to trick Chi onto his ship once more.
Under the bright moonlight, the young male insect smiles and reaches out to the female insect:
"I can help you rise to an even higher position. Would you make a deal with me?"

Before meeting Lan Ze, Chi had never imagined that one day he would wholeheartedly follow a male insect.
They weather dangerous missions and the infighting of competing factions, reaching heights they once could never have imagined. Yet Lan Ze still has no one by his side but Chi, not even a female servant to fill out the numbers.
Does that count as special treatment?
Determined not to offend a male insect, Chi continues to treat his superior with mutual courtesy... until one day, he finally kisses him by force.
Was that the sound of something snapping? Or was it just his imagination?

P.S. There are original worldbuilding details. No children. Both the top and bottom characters have POV chapters. Although this is an insectoid story, the characters won't be referred to as insects in the text.
