Wang Shuye was born into the Wang family, the founders of Taoist arts. His father was the family head, the richest man around, and the foremost master of Taoist arts. Just hearing his titles was enough to tell you how impressive his background was. Yet Wang Shuye himself loved surprising people.
Nearly everyone in the Wang family, famous for their Taoist arts, had the power to practice them. But the family head's son was a complete good-for-nothing. At thirteen, he recklessly ruined a marriage his younger sister didn't want, infuriating his father, who sent him far away. He wasn't called back until he came of age.
On the way, however, he picked up a powerful figure, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say he went out of his way to please him.
Wang Shuye: "We're only doing business together. Why are you so good to me?"
Zh'ou: "To keep our deal going."
Wang Shuye: "But I think I've fallen for you."
Zh'ou: "I like you too."
Only later did Wang Shuye learn that Zh'ou didn't understand love. The kind of liking he meant wasn't the kind Wang Shuye wanted.
Later, Wang Shuye learned the true reason Zh'ou had come to the human world. He cared only about maintaining balance and peace in the world, while Wang Shuye lived only for the Wang family. When their priorities clashed, the two found themselves on opposing sides.
Zh'ou: "You are the holy one of the human world. A holy one's duty is to protect, not destroy."
Wang Shuye: "Don't put your noble cause on me. They hurt my family and wiped out the Wang family. Why should I protect them? No one in this world will seek justice for my family, so I'll seek it myself!"
