After Breaking Off Three Engagements, I Became an Empress (Reborn)

Blurb Xie Ningyue has been reborn. Everyone in the Great Ning Dynasty knows that their beautiful and kind-hearted Princess Ningyue is in love with the eldest son of the Gu family, a man devoted to Buddhism. Sadly, the goddess loves him, but the feeling is not returned. When news spreads that Xie Ningyue is engaged, the nobles shake their heads and sigh. Princess Ningyue must have been so heartbroken by the eldest Gu son that she is treating her own marriage like a game. They have no idea that this seemingly frail and sentimental princess is using three engagements to gain advantages, gradually gathering allies and taking control of the military, step by step advancing toward a position few could ever hope to reach. * Gu Xicen is imbued with Buddhist serenity. From the day he was born, a high monk declared him the reincarnation of a Buddha. His frail health has led him to devote himself all the more to self-cultivation. He thought he would spend his short life beside a lamp and an ancient Buddha, but he never expected that one more glance at her would send him tumbling into the mortal world. Everyone says Princess Ningyue admires him, but Gu Xicen knows that when she looks at him, her eyes are calm and empty, her shyness nothing but an act. Yet with every encounter, his Buddhist heart is stirred until it is utterly defeated. It doesn't matter. Gu Xicen's face is serene with compassion for all, but the hand turning his prayer beads is already soaked in blood. He will help her achieve her wishes, then claim the sweet reward that belongs to him. * With everything settled, the powerful eldest Gu son, now the highest-ranking official in the court, pins the newly enthroned empress against the imperial throne. He coughs softly, a faint, sickly blush on his cheeks. His voice is hoarse. "Your Majesty has ascended the throne. Is it time now to grant this subject his heart's desire?" - Scheming, theatrical, ambitious woman VS a deranged man as radiant as the moon Theme: Fight for what you want, and stand on your own two feet.
