The Emperor Gives Me Too Much

Three years into Emperor Zhou Xuan's reign, the beauties of his harem have had enough and are flipping the table.

Noble Consort Gu: Every time something happens, the emperor trusts the empress without question and leaves everything to her. How are we supposed to play this game?

Consort Xian Xu: I'm clearly the gentler, more charming sweetheart, yet whenever the emperor is in a bad mood, he only goes to see the empress, who loves to throw little tantrums!

Attendant Liu: I admit the empress is prettier than I am, but the emperor can stare, transfixed, even when she's dancing like a wooden puppet. I feel genuinely insulted!!

Concubine Rong: I... I just want to leave the palace and go home. The emperor and empress are so devoted to each other that only a fool would keep dreaming of winning his favor. (whispers)

Noble Consort Gu, Consort Xian Xu, Attendant Liu, and the rest of the harem: ...

The empress, who would rather not give her name: Thanks for asking... Everyone says they're devoted to each other, but could it be that the emperor really is just giving me too much?

At first, Wen Yuqi only wanted three hundred taels and the future of her farmstead, so she set out to ruin the Fifth Prince's reputation.

But the Fifth Prince, his face burning and soaked with sweat, doubled the price and told her to keep quiet.

Later, the Fifth Prince came to her again. Ten thousand taels to help him handle his marriage.

Later still, a hundred thousand taels to help him manage the Eastern Palace's inner court.

And later still... The supreme ruler, poring over the account books, worriedly told her that his private treasury had run dry. It looked like he'd have to disband the harem and let her live as a carefree, idle empress. OvO
